South Africa won the 2022 Baseball5 African Championship held in Dar es Salaam, finishing the tournament with a perfect 7–0 record and defeating Kenya in the final, 2 games to 0, winning the gold medal. South Africa qualified to the 2022 Baseball5 World Cup held in Mexico City as African champions. [2]
South Africa finished fifth in their group in the World Cup opening round with a 2–3 record and won all the placement round games to finish the tournament with an overall record of 5–3, ranking seventh. [3]

The WBSC Americas, formerly known as Pan American Baseball Confederation, is the governing body of baseball and softball within the Americas.
The WBSC Africas, formerly known as, African Baseball and Softball Association (ABSA), is the governing body of baseball and softball within Africa. As of June 2011, there are 24 members.
The WBSC World Rankings is a ranking system for national teams in baseball, softball, and baseball5. The teams of the member nations of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), baseball's world governing body, are ranked based on their tournament results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. A point system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of WBSC-recognized international tournaments. Under the existing system, rankings are based on a team's performance over the last four years, with major international tournaments awarded a higher weighting compared to minor international and continental tournaments.
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is the world governing body for the sports of baseball, softball, and Baseball5. It was established in 2013 by the merger of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and International Softball Federation (ISF). Under the WBSC's organizational structure, the IBAF and ISF now serve as the confederation's baseball and softball divisions, respectively. Each division is governed by an executive committee, while the WBSC is governed by an executive board.
The Baseball5 European Championship is the main championship tournament between national Baseball5 teams in Europe, governed by the WBSC Europe. The tournament serves as qualifier for the Baseball5 World Cup, with the top two teams qualifying for the world championship. The 2022 Baseball5 African Championship was the first edition of the Baseball5 African Championship, a Baseball5 tournament organized by WBSC Africa. The championship was held from 23 to 26 May 2022, in the Tanzania National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and was contested between ten national teams.
