Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana, located on the southern coast at the Gulf of Guinea, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean. As of 2021 census, the Accra Metropolitan District, 20.4 km2 (7.9 sq mi), had a population of 284,124 inhabitants, and the larger Greater Accra Region, 3,245 km2 (1,253 sq mi), had a population of 5,455,692 inhabitants. In common usage, the name "Accra" often refers to the territory of the Accra Metropolitan District as it existed before 2008, when it covered 199.4 km2 (77.0 sq mi). This territory has since been split into 13 local government districts: 12 independent municipal districts and the reduced Accra Metropolitan District (20.4 km2), which is the only district within the capital to be granted city status. This territory of 199.4 km2 contained 1,782,150 inhabitants at the 2021 census, and serves as the capital of Ghana, while the district under the jurisdiction of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly proper (20.4 km2) is distinguished from the rest of the capital as the "City of Accra".

Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC) is a secondary boarding school for boys. It is located in Legon, Accra, Ghana. It was founded in 1938, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast. The Basel missionary-theologian, Nicholas Timothy Clerk (1862–1961), who served as the first Synod Clerk of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast from 1918 to 1932, used his tenure to advocate for the establishment of the secondary school. The school has ties with its sister schools, Aburi Girls' Senior High School and Krobo Girls Senior High School.
The University of Ghana Primary School, now called the University Basic School, is a primary school located on the campus of the University of Ghana in Legon, Greater Accra Region, Ghana. It was established at a temporary location in Achimota in 1955 to educate the children of university faculty and staff.
Accra Academy is a boys' secondary school located at Bubuashie near Kaneshie in the Greater Accra Region, Ghana. It admits both boarding and day students. The school was established as a private school in 1931 and gained the status of a Government-Assisted School in 1950. It is the oldest existing secondary school to have been privately founded in the Gold Coast.

Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary, is an all-boys boarding school, located at Effiduase, Koforidua, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It was established in 1958 by Bishop Joseph Oliver Bowers SVD as a Catholic seminary for boys who wished to become priests. Students are offered courses such as general arts, general science, business and visual arts to pursue and after their stay in the school, sit an external examination called the West African Senior School Certificate Examination to be placed in any of the tertiary institutions in the country.
The Presbyterian Secondary School, Osu was established in 1956 in one of the Old Basel Missionary Buildings at the foot of Kuku Hill of Osu. The motives of establishing the school are: 1. To offer Presbyterian Day Secondary education to children in Osu 2. To have a Secondary School at Osu in compensation for lack of a boarding school at Osu. It was seriously considered that the seat of the Basel Mission and Presbyterianism needed a higher school. The church and some individual educators teamed up to establish the school, with Mr. Cleland Armah as the first Headmaster of the school. In 1963, the school was absorbed into the public system under a new headmaster, Mr. McCarthy. He renovated the Old Basel Mission building into a school building accommodating two streams of classrooms, library, administration office and science laboratories. The Church offered the present site for the school. At the moment, the school has only an eighteen (18)-unit classroom block and three storey Science block which accommodate the staff of the school. Currently, the school has benefited from the GETFund, and new classroom blocks are being put up to accommodate the many students who continue to seek academic progress here.
Since 1965, Ghana has been home to the FIC Congregation. Their visit to Ghana was prompted by an invitation from the Late Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery, Bishop of the Diocese of Wa at the time. In order to promote teaching, education, and youth development, the FIC Brothers founded Nandom Secondary School, which is today Nandom Senior High. St Michael Secondary School was established in Kaleo in 1968. It was relocated to Nandom once the school building was finished.

Ebenezer Laing, was a Ghanaian botanist and geneticist who served as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon. He was a professor at the University of Ghana, Legon, and later an emeritus professor. Laing, together with his university and faculty colleague, George C. Clerk (1931–2019), was one of the first Ghanaian academics to specialise in botany as a scientific discipline and contributed significantly to the growth of the field in Ghana. He was also a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, inducted in 1965. In 1985, he was elected an inaugural Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences.
Henry Quartey is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Ayawaso Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He served as the Minister for Greater Accra Region. On 14th February 2024, he was approved as the minister of the interior of Ghana replacing Ambrose Dery.
