Sterley Stanley (born June 24,1966) [1] is an American politician and businessman serving as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly from the 18th district. He assumed office on January 27,2021,succeeding Nancy Pinkin.
Born in Karnataka,India,Stanley emigrated as a child to Brooklyn, [2] where he graduated from Xaverian High School in 1984. [3] He later relocated to East Brunswick,New Jersey. [4]
Prior to entering politics,he worked in the insurance and financial services industry. Stanley began his career in politics when he was elected to serve as a member of the East Brunswick township council where he also served as Council President.
Assemblyman Stanley was elected by a special convention of Middlesex County Democratic County Committee-Members to the New Jersey General Assembly and assumed office on January 27,2021,succeeding Nancy Pinkin,who had resigned from office to assume the office of County Clerk for Middlesex County. [5] [6] Stanley is the first Asian-American legislator to be elected to represent the 18th Legislative district,which is home to the largest concentration of Asian Americans in New Jersey and the highest concentration of Indian Americans in the United States. [7] Each of the 40 districts in the New Jersey Legislature has one representative in the New Jersey Senate and two members in the New Jersey General Assembly. East Brunswick is a township in Middlesex County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The suburban bedroom community is part of the New York City metropolitan area and is located on the southern shore of the Raritan River,directly adjacent to the city of New Brunswick and located roughly 29 miles (47 km) away from New York City. As of the 2020 United States census,the township's population was 49,715,its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 2,203 (+4.6%) from the 2010 census count of 47,512,which in turn reflected an increase of 756 (+1.6%) from the 46,756 counted in the 2000 census.
Milltown is a borough in Middlesex County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough is nestled within the heart of the Raritan Valley region,with Lawrence Brook flowing through the center of the community. As of the 2020 United States census,the borough's population was 7,037,an increase of 144 (+2.1%) from the 2010 census count of 6,893,which in turn reflected a decrease of 107 (−1.5%) from the 7,000 counted in the 2000 census.
South River is a borough in Middlesex County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census,the borough's population was 16,118,an increase of 110 (+0.7%) from the 2010 census count of 16,008,which in turn reflected an increase of 686 (+4.5%) from the 15,322 counted in the 2000 census.
Middlesex College,formerly Middlesex County College,is a public community college with its main campus in Edison,New Jersey. It was founded by the Middlesex County Board of Elected Freeholders in 1964 and serves the needs of Middlesex County as well as surrounding communities. The college also maintains two urban center campuses,one located in the Civic Square government and theatre district of New Brunswick and one in the city center of Perth Amboy. The current president of Middlesex College is Mark McCormick,who succeeded Dr. Joann LaPerla-Morales.
