The Subaru Vivio is a kei car that was introduced in March 1992, and manufactured by Subaru until October 1998. It has a 658 cc (52 PS) multi-point fuel-injected four-cylinder engine, which is small enough to place it in the kei car class, giving its owners large tax breaks in Japan. There was also a carbureted version with 42 PS in Japan, which equipped the Vivio Van version. The Vivio has impressive interior room considering its small size, thanks to a relatively tall profile and large windows. It is one of the lightest kei cars, weighing in at between 650 kg (1,433 lb) and 700 kg (1,543 lb) depending on the trim line.
The Subaru Impreza is a compact car that has been manufactured by Subaru since 1992. It was introduced as a replacement for the Leone, with the predecessor's EA series engines replaced by the new EJ series. It is now in its fifth generation.
The Subaru Rex, also known as Ace, Viki, Sherpa, 500/600/700, Mini Jumbo or M60/M70/M80 in various export markets, is a kei class automobile produced from 1972 to 1992 mainly for sale in Japan by Subaru, although it was also sold in Europe, South America, Australia and the Caribbean. The Rex superseded the R-2 as Subaru's kei car, and has been available in commercial use versions as well as in a passenger car version. It underwent major changes in 1976, in fall 1981, and again in late 1986. The second generation Rex (1981–1986) also formed the basis for the larger Subaru Justy.
The Toyota Vitz is a three- and five-door subcompact hatchback produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota from 1999 to 2019. The "Vitz" nameplate was used consistently in Japan, while most international markets received the same vehicle as the Toyota Yaris, or as the Toyota Echo in some markets for the first generation. The Vitz was available in Japan from Toyota's Netz Store dealerships. Toyota began production in Japan and later assembled the vehicle in other Asian countries and in France.
The Daihatsu Mira is a kei car and city car built by Japanese car maker Daihatsu. It has a variety of options and chassis variations, with the latest variant having four models: Mira, Mira AVY, Mira Gino, and Mira VAN. The Mira is the latest successor to the line of cars begun with the Daihatsu Fellow of 1966, and was originally introduced as the commercial version of the Cuore. Outside of Japan, the Mira has also been offered with larger 850 or 1000-cc engines. In Australia, the two-seater version was marketed as the Daihatsu Handivan and later as the Daihatsu Handi. The term mira is Latin meaning "goal" or "purpose".
The Daihatsu Move is a kei car/city car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu since August 1995. The Move is Daihatsu's response to the similarly designed Suzuki Wagon R that was introduced two years earlier in 1993. The Move is built upon the chassis of the Mira but with a taller body. Daihatsu had successfully sold 500,000 units of the Move during its first three years of production.
The Subaru Justy is a subcompact hatchback that has been sold by Japanese automobile manufacturer Subaru since 1984. Subaru manufactured the Justy from 1984 to 1994; since then it has sold rebadged versions of other vehicles under the Justy nameplate. The company introduced the latest iteration, a rebadged Daihatsu Boon, at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show with a 1.0 or 1.2-liter straight-three engine, front/four wheel drive, electronically controlled continuously variable transaxle, or a 5-speed manual transaxle. For the 2010 model year, the Justy was replaced with the Subaru Trezia. The Justy nameplate was revived in November 2016 as a rebadged Toyota Tank and its twin counterpart the Toyota Roomy and Daihatsu Thor.
The Daihatsu Hijet is a cab over microvan and kei truck produced and sold by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu since 1960. Despite the similarities between the Hijet name and Toyota's naming scheme for its trucks and vans, the name "Hijet" has been in use for Daihatsu's Kei trucks and Microvans since 1960, over two decades before Toyota took control. "Hijet", when transliterated into Japanese, is very similar to "Midget", one of Daihatsu's other mini-trucks. According to Daihatsu, the name "Hijet" was created to imply that the vehicle offers higher performance than the Midget. The Hijet competes in Japan with the Honda Acty, Mitsubishi Minicab, Nissan Clipper, Subaru Sambar and Suzuki Carry.
The Subaru Sambar is a cabover kei truck and microvan manufactured by Subaru, a division of Subaru Corporation, specifically for the Japanese market. It is Japan's first Keitora (軽トラ), shorthand for "kei class truck" and is still in production. The Sambar is available in both microvan and Kei truck to fulfill the Kei car guidelines. Still popular in the domestic market, Subaru no longer produces the Sambar themselves as the nameplate has been used on a rebadged Daihatsu Hijet since 2012. The Sambar has also been produced in China as the [三八] as well as in Finland in a joint venture with Elcat Automotive.
The Suzuki Cervo is a kei car manufactured by Suzuki Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1976 as the successor to the Suzuki Fronte Coupé, the Cervo name was originally affixed to a kei sports coupe, and then to models derived from the Suzuki Alto. The nameplate was retired between 1998 and 2006, and again in December 2009.
The Suzuki MR Wagon is a 4-seater kei car manufactured by Suzuki for the Japanese market only, and also marketed in Japan by Nissan as the Nissan Moco under an OEM agreement. The model debuted in 2001, and since 2011 it has been in its third generation. It was launched in India by Maruti Suzuki as Maruti Zen Estilo in 2006, Maruti Zen Estilo was discontinued in 2009 and renamed as Maruti Estilo.
The Daihatsu Mira Gino is a kei car/city car with distinctive retro styling made by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu from 1999 to 2009. It is based on the more mainstream Mira and was first introduced to the Japanese market in 1999, with the second generation model following in 2004. The Mira Gino replaced the Mira Classic which is a subvariant of the L500 series Mira. The second generation model was also exported as the Daihatsu Trevis to some markets in Europe such as Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and France.
The Daihatsu Opti is a kei car produced by Japanese automaker Daihatsu from 1992 to 2002. It replaces the Leeza. It is available with a 658 cc petrol engine and either front- or four-wheel drive. It is a more upmarket variant of the Mira. The name "Opti" refers to both "optimistic" and "optimum".
The Daihatsu Storia is a subcompact car which was produced by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu between 1998 and 2004, and was also sold as the Toyota Duet in Japan. It effectively replaced the similar sized Charade, which was produced alongside it for a year until being discontinued in 1999.
The EN series engine is a four-cylinder, four-stroke engine used in kei cars sold by Subaru in Japan, succeeding the EK family of two-cylinder engines previously used in Subaru kei cars from 1958 to 1989. The EN family was introduced in 1989 and discontinued in 2012.
The Daihatsu Tanto Exe is a kei car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu. The car made its debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show and was launched on 24 December 2009, by Daihatsu and 20 April 2010, by Subaru as the Subaru Lucra. It is based on the L375 series Tanto and was designed to compete with models such as the Honda Life, Nissan Moco and Suzuki Wagon R. The Tanto Exe is more comfort-oriented than the standard Tanto which is more oriented for a flexible seat arrangement and maximum interior space. The left sliding door has also been eliminated for a more common side-hinged doors that reduces the weight by 60 kg (132 lb). The Tanto Exe Custom, a more sports-oriented version of the Tanto Exe with sports styling, was launched simultaneously. The Tanto Exe and Tanto Exe Custom are both available in two engine options: a naturally aspirated 658 cc KF-VE and a turbocharged 658 cc KF-DET three-cylinder petrol engines mated to a continuously variable transmission on front-wheel drive models and 4-speed automatic transmission on four-wheel drive models.
The Daihatsu E-series engine is a range of compact three-cylinder, internal combustion piston engines, designed by Daihatsu, which is a subsidiary of Toyota. The petrol-driven series has cast iron engine blocks and aluminum cylinder heads, and are of either SOHC or DOHC design, with belt driven heads.
The Suzuki Baleno is a subcompact car produced by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki since 2015. It was previewed by the iK-2 concept car that was first shown at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Prior to this, the "Baleno" nameplate had been applied to the Suzuki Cultus Crescent, Suzuki Aerio and Suzuki SX4 in numerous markets. Since June 2019, it is also marketed at Toyota dealerships in India as the Toyota Glanza, and since September 2020 in several African countries as the Toyota Starlet.
The Daihatsu Thor is a mini MPV with sliding doors designed and manufactured by Daihatsu, and sold by Daihatsu, Toyota and Subaru. It is a five-seat MPV based on the M700 series Boon and was introduced on 9 November 2016 as the successor to the Coo. It is currently sold only in Japan and is not regarded as a kei car due to the exterior dimensions as defined by Japanese government dimension regulations and the engine displacement of 996 cc, which incurs a modest annual road tax obligation. The Tank was once exclusive to Toyopet Store and Netz Store, while the Roomy was once exclusive to Toyota Store and Corolla Store. It sits below the Sienta in Toyota's minivan line-up.
The Daihatsu Mira e:S is a kei car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu as the successor to the original Mira. It was previewed by the "e:S" concept car at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The car was introduced to the Japanese market in September 2011. It was also sold by Toyota as the Toyota Pixis Epoch, which was released on 10 May 2012 and by Subaru as the Subaru Pleo Plus, which was released on 21 December 2012.
