Sunayana Kachroo is an Indian-American poet, film-writer, lyricist and a columnist. [1]
Sunayana Kachroo was born and raised in Kashmir, India into a Kashmiri Pandit family. She received her education in Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra, and earned a master’s in computer science from Savitribai Phule Pune University in Pune. [2] Her father, Chaman Kachroo, was also a poet known for his Urdu Nazm titled Charcha. [3]
In 2000, Sunayana moved to the US and began working as an analyst in New York City. [1] [2] Her first book, Waqt Se Pare- Beyond Time, was published in 2013. [2]
She has also written lyrics for songs sung by artists like Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan, [4] Ali Sethi, Sunidhi Chauhan, Hariharan, Harshdeep Kaur, Rashmeet Kaur, Anuradha Palakurthi, Jasraj Joshi, Hrishikesh Ranade, and Archana Kamath. [1] [5]
Sunayana developed an interest in poetry at the age of 15, trying different forms like Kavita, English Poems, Nazms, and Dohe. [5] She started as a featured poet at the South Asian Institute of Harvard in 2014 and later shared the stage with Punjabi poet Nirupama Dutt at the Bangalore Literature Festival. [6] Since 2015, she has been a featured poet at the annual South Asian Poetry reading at Harvard University hosted by the South Asian Institute. [7] [8]
In 2022, she launched a new collection of poems called Sunny Side Up, which received reviews from Subhash Kak, and Lopa Banerjee, [5] and an NFT poem named Home and Homeless, [1] after which she was invited to the US Capitol Hill to recite her poems. Sunayana has participated in poetry shows globally and recited her poems at various venues, including Jose Mateo's Ballet Theatre, Harvard University, NECA awards, Indian Consulate NYC, Lalded Ke lal-vakh, and Hindu Heritage Day in 2015. Notable events included her poetry showcase at the U.S Capitol hill. [1] [9]
In 2023, she released the song Tum Kehte Ho, sung and produced by Sunidhi Chauhan. [10]
Urdu poetry is a tradition of poetry and has many different forms. Today, it is an important part of the culture of India and Pakistan. According to Naseer Turabi there are five major poets of Urdu: Mir Taqi Mir (d.1810), Mirza Ghalib, Mir Anees (d.1874), Muhammad Iqbal and Josh Malihabadi (d.1982). The language of Urdu reached its pinnacle under the British Raj, and it received official status. All famous writers of Urdu language including Ghalib and Iqbal were given British scholarships. Following the Partition of India in 1947, it found major poets and scholars were divided along the nationalistic lines. However, Urdu poetry is cherished in both the nations. Both the Muslims and Hindus from across the border continue the tradition.

Abdur Rehman Rahi was an Kashmiri poet, translator and critic. He was awarded the Indian Sahitya Akademi Award in 1961 for his poetry collection Nawroz-i-Saba, the Padma Shri in 2000, and India's highest literary award, the Jnanpith Award in 2007. He is the first Kashmiri writer to be awarded the Jnanpith, India's highest literary award for his poetic collection Siyah Rood Jaeren Manz. He was honoured with Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2000 by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
Muzaffar Warsi was a Pakistani poet, essayist, lyricist, and a scholar of Urdu. He began writing more than five decades ago. He wrote a rich collection of na`ats, as well as several anthologies of ghazals and nazms, and his autobiography Gaye Dinon Ka Suraagh. He also wrote quatrains for Pakistan's daily newspaper Nawa-i-Waqt.

Half Widow is a 2017 Indian drama film directed by debutant Danish Renzu and written by Renzu and Gaya Bhola. The film tells the story of a woman from Srinagar in Kashmir, who tries to find her husband who is abducted by the Indian army. Jointly produced by Bhola and Renzu, the film stars Neelofar Hamid, Shahnawaz Bhat, Mir Sarwar and Haseena Sofi. Because there are no theaters in Kashmir, the film was screened at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre. The title of the film refers to the namesake term used for Kashmiri women whose husbands have disappeared mostly in custody of security forces in the Kashmir conflict. The film's official trailer was released in May 2017. The characters in the film talk in Urdu, with some Kashmiri. The film received a favourable review on Cineblitz. The film was released theatrically on 6 January 2020 in India.
Liaqat Jafri is an Indian poet, scholar and researcher of Urdu. He has authored books and serves as editor of Alla Taleem magazine, published by Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu and Kashmir. He represented Jammu and Kashmir in International Festivals and Mushairas held in UAE, South Asia and elsewhere. His poems have gone viral including his popular poem about Narendra Modi. He writes songs for Bollywood movies.

His uncertain work includes thirty six books published in various genres such as ghazal, nazm, rubaʿi, qata, marsiya, munajat, naʽat, manqabat and leela among others.
"Mujh Se Pehli Si Mohabbat Mere Mehboob Na Maang" is an Urdu nazm by Faiz Ahmad Faiz. The song is popular through its rendition by singer Noor Jehan and has been notably performed by many others. According to Faiz, the nazm also marks his transition from romantic work of his earlier years to mature works of his later years.

Rashmeet Kaur is an Indian singer, composer, and songwriter known for her songs Nadiyon Paar (Roohi), Jadi Buti, and Ishq Nachaawe.
