Sunit Kumar [1] [2] (born 10 November 1955),is a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer of Bihar cadre in India,currently serving as Chairman of Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) in the state of Bihar. [3] [4] He has also served as Director General of Police in the state of Bihar [5] retiring from service in November 2015. [6] He belongs to the I.P.S. batch of 1980. [7] He has also served as Director of Bihar Police Academy [8] and Chairman of the Bihar Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC).
Kumar belongs to the Bihar Cadre of the Indian Police Service (I.P.S.). He has served various districts of Bihar and Jharkhand (erstwhile part of Bihar) as Superintendent of Police. He has also served as Deputy Inspector General of Police (D.I.G.) of Patna Range and Inspector General of Police (I.G.) of Tirhut (Muzaffarpur) Zone. [9]
Apart from active policing in the field Kumar has also served numerous departments of Bihar Police such as Special Branch (Secret Service of State Police),Bihar Military Police (B.M.P.), [10] State Crime Records Bureau (S.C.R.B.), [11] Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D.) and Provisions. [12]
As Superintendent of Police he has served various districts of Bihar and Jharkhand (erstwhile part of Bihar) such as Chaibasa,Naugachiya,Gopalganj,Samastipur,and Gumla [13] etc.
From 2008 to November 2015,Kumar was Chairman of the Central Selection Board of Constable in Bihar and has handled recruitment of more than 32,500 Constables into Bihar Police. A number of recruitment drives were conducted by C.S.B.C in these years in order to strengthen the police force in the state. Kumar has been credited with conducting these recruitment drives in an efficient manner which has been marred with corruption in the past. [14] [15]
Apart from police recruitment he has also handled recruitment for Bihar Fire Services,Bihar Home Guards,and the Prisons Department. Around 1,000 firemen for Bihar Government were recruited by C.S.B.C under Kumar. [16]
In March 2017 Kumar was appointed as the first Chairman of newly created Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) [17] in an order issued by Home Department,Government of Bihar. The service commission was created in order to conduct recruitment examinations and fill vacancies for 19 posts of Group C employees in Government of Bihar. [18]
Kumar has been awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2010 on the eve of India's Independence Day. [19] He was also awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1998.
Kumar is married to Kavita Kumar and they have three children. He currently resides in Patna with his wife. Kumar's younger brother is veteran Bollywood actor Vineet Kumar. [20]

Abhayanand is an IPS officer and educationalist who,along with Anand Kumar,conceptualised Super 30 to teach poor students to crack IIT JEE. Following his graduation from Patna Science College,Abhayanand was selected as the IPS officer for the Bihar cadre after clearing UPSC Civil Services Examination in 1977. He was the ADG (headquarters) in 2006 and as such he concentrated on the speedy trial of Arms Act cases in Bihar. Later,during his tenure as the ADG of Bihar Military Police,Patna,he motivated the constables to donate from their salaries to convert a dilapidated government hospital into a modern nursing home with state-of-the-art facilities for treatment of the police force and their family members. Abhayanand was appointed as D.G.P. Bihar in August 2011,following the footsteps of his late father,Mr. Jagdanand,who was the 28th D.G.P.,Bihar in 1985–86.
Nikhil Kumar is a former IPS officer-turned politician hailing from Bihar who was Governor of Nagaland from 2009 to 2013 and Governor of Kerala from 2013 to 2014. One of country's well knownIPS officers of 1963 batch from the AGMUT Cadre Kumar also served as DGP of the National Security Guards,Indo-Tibetan Border Police,Railway Protection Force and Commissioner of Delhi Police. He was elected member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India from 2004 to 2009,representing the Aurangabad constituency in Bihar as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He also served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology.

Kishore Kunal is a former officer of the Indian Police Service from the state of Bihar,India. During his police career,he was appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (Ayodhya) by the prime minister V. P. Singh to mediate between the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Babri Masjid Action Committee on the Ayodhya dispute. Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC)(Hindi:केन्द्रीयचयनपर्षद[सिपाहीभर्ती]) is an organization under Government of Bihar to recruit Group 'D' civil servants for Bihar Police. The board is headed by a three-star rank Additional Director General or Director General level police officer. Current chairman of the commission is K.S. Dwivedi.
Rajeev Kumar is a former Director General of Police of the state of Jharkhand. He held highly responsible positions during his career. He is a 1981 batch IPS officer. He was appointed as the DGP Jharkhand in the year 2013 and served for two years thereafter. In the year 1997,he was awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious services and in the year 2014,he was also awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished services.
Pramod Kumar Thakur or P. K. Thakur,is a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer of Bihar state in India,currently serving as Information commissioner in the state of Bihar. He served as Director General of Police of Bihar Police from June 2014 until his retirement in February 2018. He belongs to the I.P.S. batch of 1980. He has also served as Director General in Bihar. He was awarded with National Security Guard Disc for his outstanding work in the Central Police Organization as Inspector General (Administration). He was appointed on the post of Information commissioner of Bihar State Information Commission in October 2018.

He is the current Director General civil defence at Indian state Uttar Pradesh from May 2022 and had previously served as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Border Security Force. He was suspended by the erstwhile Mayawati's government in 2007 for alleged irregularities in police recruitment. He is 1987 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. On 11 May 2022 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath removed Director General of Police Mukul Goel from his post for inefficiency and neglecting his work. At present he is working as DGP at UP Police.
