Super Xevious [lower-alpha 1] is a vertically scrolling shooter released as an arcade video game in Japan in 1984. It was developed and published by Namco as an updated version of Xevious (1982) created as a response to the overwhelming success of the original in Japan. It was sold as conversion kit for existing Xevious cabinets.
Like the original game, the player controls a starship known as the Solvalou, equipped with two weapons: an "air zapper" to defeat flying enemies, and a "blaster bomb" to destroy ground-based enemies. It runs on the Namco Galaga arcade board. New enemy types include metallic Galaxian flagships. Some of these revert the player's score to zero if destroyed. The game was ported to the X68000 and PlayStation [2] [3] and is included in several Namco video game compilations.
Super Xevious is a vertically scrolling shooter and an updated version of Xevious . [4] Its gameplay is largely identical. The player assumes control of a starship, the Solvalou, in its mission to destroy a supercomputer named GAMP and its Xevious forces. [4] The player is attacked by constantly-moving waves of enemies and must avoid collision with them and their projectiles. [4]
The Solvalou has two weapons: a forward-moving shot that destroys flying enemies, and an air-to-surface bomb that destroys ground targets. [4] [5] On occasion, the player faces off against an Andor Genesis ship which can be defeated by destroying its center core or four blaster receptacles. [4] [5] Some areas contain hidden towers ("Sol Citadels") which are uncovered by bombing their locations. [5] Yellow "Special Flags" from Rally-X can also be uncovered, which reward the player with an extra life. [4]
Super Xevious includes multiple additions and changes to the original game. [6] The gameplay overall is harder, with more aggressive enemies and faster-moving projectiles. [4] [7] New enemy types include fighter jets, tanks, helicopters, and silver-plated Galaxian flagships, which are found in specific areas of the game. [4] [6] [7] Some of these enemies reset the player's score to zero upon destruction; however, bonus points are awarded for flying over the tank. [5] [6] The placement of the Sol Citadels and Special Flags have also been changed. [5]
Its inclusion in Xevious 3D/G+ drew mixed responses from critics. Graeme Nicholson, a writer for Play UK , believed that while Super was still fun to play and posed enough challenge, its differences from the original Xevious were few and far between and "[spoiled] the idea of the collection slightly". [8] A writer for the Spanish magazine PSX Magazine agreed, describing it as a "decaffinated" variation of its predecessor with little in the way of new content. However, they liked the slightly-refined visuals and overall increase in speed. [9]
Retrospectively in 1998, AllGame 's Earl Green noted of Super's high level of difficulty and new enemy types, writing that its enhanced challenge and differences in gameplay made it a superior update to Xevious. [7] Retro Gamer writer Stuart Campbell showed appreciation towards its new additions to the game, namely the silver Galaxian bosses. [6]
Former Happy End and Yellow Magic Orchestra member Haruomi Hosono recorded an arranged dance/synthpop version of the game's theme tune, which was released in Japan by Alfa Records' Yen label as a 12" single on August 29, 1984. The single was also released in Europe by Pick Up Records that same year.

Galaxian3: Project Dragoon is a 3D rail shooter video game developed and published by Namco. It was originally a theme park attraction designed for the International Garden and Greenery Exposition in Japan, and was later released as an arcade game in 1992. The game involves players controlling a starship named the Dragoon in its mission to destroy Cannon Seed, a superweapon set to destroy what is left of the human race.
Grobda is a 1984 multidirectional shooter arcade video game developed and published by Namco. It is a spin-off from Xevious, as the player's tank first appeared in that game as an enemy. It runs on Namco Super Pac-Man hardware but with a video system like that used in Mappy and The Tower of Druaga, and it also uses a DAC for the "Get Ready" speech sample at the start of each round.

Controlling the dragon Amur, the player must complete each of the game's nine areas to rescue the princess Alicia from the demon Zawell. Namco Classic Collection Vol. 1 is a 1995 arcade game compilation developed and published by Namco. It includes three of the company's most well-known games from the early 1980s — Galaga (1981), Xevious (1983), and Mappy (1983) — alongside brand-new "Arrangement" remakes of these games that have updated gameplay, visuals, and sounds. The arcade originals are also modified slightly to end after a certain number of rounds. Super Xevious (1984) is also playable. It ran on the Namco ND-1 arcade system, being one of the first games to utilize it.

The player controls a spaceship named the Solvalou in its mission to destroy a powerful supercomputer named GAMP, which took over Earth during an ice age. GAMP no Nazo features a heavy focus on puzzle-solving, with each of the game's 21 levels posing a puzzle that must be solved to progress.

Namco Museum Essentials is a 2009 video game compilation developed by Cattle Call and published by Namco Bandai Games for the PlayStation 3. The collection includes five Namco arcade games from the 1980s: Pac-Man (1980), Galaga (1981), Dig Dug (1982), Xevious (1983), and Dragon Spirit (1987), alongside an exclusive Xevious sequel, Xevious Resurrection. Player progress is rewarded with stamps, which could be redeemed for virtual items in the now-defunct PlayStation Home service. Stamps also award points when collected, used to unlock extra features such as wallpapers.
Terra Cresta 3D is a 1997 vertical-scrolling shooter video game developed by Nihon Bussan and published by its main publishing label Nichibutsu for the Sega Saturn in Japan. It is the fourth game in the Cresta series, following the 1992 game Terra Cresta II: Mandler's Counterattack for the PC-Engine.
