Sarwan Ram Darapuri an Indian social activist, politician and ex-IPS officer. He served as the third-highest-ranking police officer in Uttar Pradesh.
Darapuri was born on 16 December 1943 at Darapur village in Jalandhar District of Punjab. His father's name is Naranjan Ram. Darapuri is an Ambedkarite and also converted into Buddhism on 14 October 1995. [1] He completed his Bachelor of Sciences from the Ramgharia College, Phagwara (Punjab) in 1964.
He worked as a science lecturer in Punjab, District Organiser of National Savings Organisation (GOI), Assistant in Ministry of Finance (GOI), New Delhi and the Customs Appraiser in Customs Department (GOI) at Bombay. [2]
He is an Indian Police Services officer from 1972 batch of Uttar Pradesh. [3] He became Inspector General of Police in Uttar Pradesh. Darapuri was last posted at Armed Training Centre, Sitapur and retired on 31 December 2003. [4] [5]
He was State Coordinator of Lok Rajniti Manch of U.P and the Member of Coordination Committee for Jan Sangharsh Morcha. He is National Secretary and the National President of All India People's Front (Radical). [6]
He contested in 2009 Indian General elections of Lok Sabha from Lucknow constituency and in 2014 Indian general elections he contested from the Robertsganj constituency but lost at both times. [7] [8]
He criticised and questioned the role of the police after inspector Subodh Singh was killed in the 2019 Bulandshahr violence and 2018 Kasganj violence. [9]
Darapuri is Vice President of People's Union for Civil Liberties in U.P, expert advisor for National Commission for Scheduled Castes, RTI Campaign committee member of U.P and the convener of Dalit Mukti Morcha. Also a convener of the World Conference on Religion and Peace (Lucknow branch) and President of Society for Promoting Buddhist Knowledge. [10]
Darapuri was arrested in 2017 for protesting against Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh. [11] In 2019 he was again arrested in anti CAA protests at Uttar Pradesh and kept in house arrest and released after few days. [12]

In 2023, the socialist leader was posthumously conferred with Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award by the Government of India.
Shrish Chandra Dikshit was an Indian Politician and Member of Parliament in the 10th Lok Sabha. Dikshit represented the Varanasi constituency of Uttar Pradesh and was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party political party. He died in April 2014.
Satya Pal Singh was India's Minister of State for Human Resource Development responsible for Higher Education and Minister of State in the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation. He is a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2014, representing Baghpat constituency, Uttar Pradesh in the 16th Lok Sabha and then retaining his seat in 2019 elections. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Bhim Army, alternatively Bheem Army or the Bheem Army Bharat Ekta Mission is an Ambedkarite and Dalit rights organisation in India. It was founded by Satish Kumar, Vinay Ratan Singh and Chandra Shekhar Aazad in 2015. The organisation runs more than 350 free schools for Dalits and Bahujans in the districts of Saharanpur, Meerut, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar in western Uttar Pradesh. The organisation is named after B. R. Ambedkar.
Om Prakash Singh is a 1983 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He was the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police, and had previously served as the Director General of CISF and Director General of NDRF.

The Citizenship Amendment Act (Bill) protests, also known as the CAA Protest, CAB Protest or CAA and NRC protests, occurred after the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was enacted by the Government of India on 12 December 2019. The move sparked a widespread national and overseas ongoing protests against the act and its associated proposals of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The protests first began in Assam and spread swiftly in other states such as Delhi, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura on 4 December 2019. Protests broke out rapidly across the country, although the concerns of the protesters vary.
Legislative Assembly elections were held in Punjab on 20 February 2022 to elect the 117 members of the 16th Assembly of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The votes were counted and the results were declared on 10 March 2022.
CAA protests in Uttar Pradesh was a protest that began in response to the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in both houses of Parliament on 11 December 2019. and the police intervention against students at Jamia Millia Islamia who were opposing law which gives priority to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians resident in India before 2014, but excludes Muslims, including minority sects. The student activists were also demanding complete roll back of CAA.
Stone pelting in India refers to criminal assault in the form of stone throwing by individuals or mob who pelt, bombard or throw stones at security personnel, police forces, healthcare workers and trains. Stone pelting began with incidents of stone pelting in Kashmir, but became less frequent after the revocation of article 370 of the Constitution of India and the conversion of the state into union territories. These incidents were later reported in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in 2019 in protest of the citizenship amendment act. In 2020, such incidents started occurring in various parts of India on doctors and policemen after the coronavirus lockdown.

Lakhimpur Kheri incident was a vehicle-ramming attack, drive-by shooting and mob lynching incident during farmers’ protest against the three farm laws passed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Union Government. It happened on 3 October 2021 at Banbirpur village near Tikunia in Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, India, resulting in deaths of eight people and injuries to ten others. Four protesting farmers and a journalist were run over by the car. Two BJP members and Ajay Mishra Teni's driver were lynched by protestors in the subsequent violence.
Mukul Goel is a retired Indian civil servant. He is the former Director General civil defence at Indian state Uttar Pradesh and had previously served as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Border Security Force. He was suspended by the erstwhile Mayawati's government in 2007 for alleged irregularities in police recruitment. He is 1987 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. On 11 May 2022 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath removed Director General of Police Mukul Goel from his post for inefficiency and neglecting his work. Thereafter,he worked as DGP at UP Police.
Asim Arun is an Indian politician and resigned 1994 Batch Indian Police Service officer. Arun is the member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Kannauj Sadar since March 2022. He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a Minister of State Social welfare in Second Yogi Adityanath ministry.
The 2024 Indian general election in Uttar Pradesh will be held in all 7 phases from 19 April to 1 June to elect 80 members of the 18th Lok Sabha, with the results declared on 4 June. Bye-polls for Dadraul, Lucknow East, Gainsari, and Duddhi assembly constituencies will be held alongside this election.
Manzil Saini is an Indian Police Service officer of 2005 batch, who previously served as Senior Superintendent of Police for Lucknow. She is the first woman to assume the post of SSP of Lucknow in the history of Uttar Pradesh. She has also served as Deputy Inspector General in National Human Rights Commission. In 2021, she was raised to the post of Deputy Inspector General of National Security Guards. Saini has also served in Etawah, the hometown of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. She gained nationwide fame for her role in investigating Amit Kumar Kidney Racket case. Saini is an alumnus of Delhi School of Economics, and she is a gold medalist from there.
