B. P. Acharya (born 30 October 1960) is a senior officer of the 1983 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

Career

Acharya's first government position, in 1985, was as a sub-collector in Bhadrachalam. In 1993 he became Warangal collector. [1] He was Special Chief Secretary, Planning in Telangana until December 2017. [2] [3] [4] On his retirement in 2020, he was Director General for MCR HRD Institute of Telangana and also Special Chief Secretary in General Administration Department for Telangana State. [1] [5]

As Secretary, Industries and Commerce, he was involved in creating Genome Valley on the outskirts of Hyderabad and many such industrial clusters. [6] After retirement, he was appointed as advisor to the Indian Council of Medical Research for their National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research in Genome Valley. [5] [7]

Corruption investigation

In January 2012, Acharya was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of conspiracy, cheating, and corruption in connection with a joint development venture with Emaar Properties at Gachibowli during his tenure as vice chairman and managing director of the publicly owned Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation in 2005–10. [8] [9] He was released on bail in March 2012 and surrendered after his bail was revoked later the same month. [10] The accused secured a stay in early 2016. [11] The High Court subsequently quashed the charge against Acharya, and neither he nor another senior IAS officer accused by the CBI were among the 15 people charged in June 2019. [12]

Personal life

Acharya's wife, Ranjeev R. Acharya, is also a senior IAS officer. [8]

Ramappa Temple, also known as the Rudreshwara temple, is a Kakatiya style Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, located in Palampet village, Mulugu district, Telangana, India. It is 15 km (9.3 mi) from Mulugu, 66 km (41 mi) from Warangal, 209 km (130 mi) from Hyderabad. An inscription in the temple says it was constructed in the year 1213 CE by Recharla Rudra Reddy—a general of Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva. Located in the vicinity of Ramappa Lake, the Ramappa Temple complex which consist of three temples was constructed between 1212 and 1234, designed and architect by Ramappa—after whom the temple complex is named. Marco Polo, during his visit to the Kakatiya empire, supposedly called the temple "the brightest star in the galaxy of temples". In July 2021, Ramappa Temple was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Yeduguri Sandinti Vivekananda Reddy was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Kadapa constituency of Andhra Pradesh. He was a member of the Indian National Congress. He was brutally hacked with an axe to death at his residence in Pulivendula, Kadapa district on 15 March 2019.

Lok Satta is a classical liberal political party in India, founded by Nagabhairava Jaya Prakash Narayana, a former IAS officer and renowned activist from Andhra Pradesh. Since 1996, the Lok Satta Movement functioned as a non-governmental organisation, but on 2 October 2006, the movement was reorganised into a formal political party. The party intends to further the causes of the Lok Satta Movement, including a reduction in the size of the cabinet, promotion of the Right to Information Act, and disclosure of criminal records and assets by political candidates. Beginning with the 2009 elections the party has adopted a whistle as their official symbol. On 23 March 2016, the party founder president, Jayaprakash Narayan said that they will not take part in electoral politics for sometime.

He served as the Additional Director General of Police in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is known for leading the investigations like OMC Scandal, Emaar Properties, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy Case, Satyam Scandal and Disproportionate Assets. He had previously held the post of Joint Commissioner of Police of Thane, Maharashtra and before that as Inspector general of police Rank under Y-category security for dealing with high-profile corruption cases. He contested from Visakhapatnam constituency in the 2019 Indian general election from Jana Sena Party. He has resigned from the Jana Sena Party in 2020.

Kothapalli Geetha is an Indian Politician and a former member of parliament from Araku, Andhra Pradesh. She won the 2014 Indian general election from Araku Constituency in a reserved Scheduled Tribe (ST) seat being a Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) candidate. She started the Jana Jagruti Party in 2018. She later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 2019.

Dharmapuri Arvind is an Indian politician who is the current Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad, Telangana. He played a first-class cricket match for Hyderabad in 1995/96. He is the youngest of two sons of D. Srinivas who served as a three time Congress MLA from Nizamabad.
