Venu Rajamony (born 12 November 1960) is an Indian diplomat and professor affiliated with the Indian Foreign Service. He teaches Diplomatic Practice at the Jindal Global Law School of the O.P. Jindal Global University,Sonipat,Haryana. On September 17,2021,he assumed the role of Officer on Special Duty for External Cooperation in the Government of Kerala,holding the rank of Chief Secretary with an office at Kerala House,New Delhi. He resigned from this position on September 16,2023,citing disagreements with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. [1] He held the position of Ambassador of India to the Netherlands from 2017 to 2020. [2] [3] [4] [5] He also served as the Permanent Representative of India to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague,overseeing India’s relations with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).
He was Press Secretary to the President of India during the tenure of President Pranab Mukherjee from 2012 to 2017. [6]
He was born in Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala. Growing up in Kunnumpuram behind the Ayurveda College in Thiruvananthapuram,Venu Rajamony completed his primary education in Holy Angels Convent. The next three years were spent in St. Joseph's School near the General Hospital. Rajamony's high school days in St. Joseph's of the Woods,Kalamassery (1973–1976) began with his family's shift to Kochi.
He subsequently pursued a pre-degree course at Maharajas College,Ernakulam (1976–1978) and graduated from there in 1981 with a BA in Politics. He was elected as Chairman of the Maharaja's College Students' Union during 1980–81 under the panel of Kerala Students Union. [7]
Moving to New Delhi to pursue a Master's degree in International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU),he served as Vice President of the Students' Union there during 1981 and 1982. [8] Later,he earned an LLB degree from Ernakulam Law College,Mahatma Gandhi University (1983–1986).
Fluent in the Chinese language,Rajamony is also proficient in Malayalam,Tamil,Hindi,and French.
He began his career as a journalist with the Indian Express,Kochi,in 1983. He cleared the Indian Foreign Service exam in 1986 at University College,Thiruvananthapuram. Rajamony also holds a Certificate in Chinese Language from the University of Hong Kong. [9]
While serving as Consul General of India in Dubai from 2007 to 2010,Rajamony initiated several measures for the welfare of the two million-strong Indian community there and to enhance trade and investment between the UAE and India. [10]
During his tenure in the Netherlands,Rajamony represented India before the ICJ in The Hague in the case of "Advisory Opinion concerning the Legal Consequences of the Separation of the Chagos Archipelago from Mauritius." [11] [12] He was part of the Indian delegation before the ICJ in the Jadhav case (India Vs. Pakistan) [13] [14] and served as Co-Agent of India in the Enrica Lexie incident case (Italy Vs. India) [15] before the PCA. [16] Additionally,he led the Indian delegation to various sessions of the Conference of States Parties and Executive Council of the OPCW. [17]
As Officer on Special Duty (OSD),Ambassador Rajamony's role involves engaging with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs,foreign missions in India,and Indian diplomatic missions abroad on various issues,particularly those concerning the Kerala diaspora. He is tasked with exploring opportunities for external cooperation in sectors such as business,trade,investments,finance,skill development,education,and culture. Additionally,he assists the state government in its interactions with foreign officials and business delegations visiting Kerala,as well as in the aftermath of official visits by the Chief Minister of Kerala abroad.
Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh is a painter, poet and art critic from Gujarat, India. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1983 and Padmabhushan in 2014 for his contribution in field of art.
Kanayi Kunhiraman is an Indian sculptor, best known for his outsize sculptures such as Yakshi of Malampuzha Dam Gardens, Sagarakanyaka at Shankumugham Beach and Mukkola Perumal trinity in Kochi. Taught by K. C. S. Paniker, he is a former chairman of the Lalit Kala Academy, India's national academy of fine arts. The Government of Kerala awarded him the inaugural Raja Ravi Varma Award in 2005. He is also a recipient of the Thikkurissy Award and the inaugural MS Nanjunda Rao National Award of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. In 2022, he was honoured with Kerala Sree Award, third highest civilian award given by the Government of Kerala.
C. N. Karunakaran was an Indian painter, illustrator and art director from Kerala. He was the Chairman of the Kerala Lalitakala Academy and a recipient of several honours including the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Award which he won thrice. The Akademi honoured him again with the fellowship in 2005.
Achutan Ramachandran Nair was an Indian painter. He was born in Attingal, Kerala. In 2002, he was elected a Fellow of the Lalit Kala Akademi and in 2005, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, for outstanding service to the nation. In 2013, he was conferred with an honorary doctorate by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala.
Sankho Chaudhuri was an Indian sculptor, and a noted figure in the art scene of India. (Although named Naranarain in due family tradition, he was more widely known by his pet name Sankho). Ram Kinker Baij was his teacher. He began close to cubism and then was influenced by István Beöthy, whom he had met in Paris. His themes have included the female figure and wildlife. He has worked in a wide range of media and produced large-scale reliefs and mobiles.
Ram Gopal Vijayvargiya (1905–2003) was an Indian painter. He was also a poet and a writer.
Kalpathi Ganpathi "K.G." Subramanyan was an Indian artist. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2012.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, also known as Akademi Ratna Sadasyata, is an Indian honour for the performing arts presented by Sangeet Natak Akademi. It is "the most prestigious and rare honour" conferred by the Akademi and is "restricted to 40 individuals at any given time".
Pratiksha Apurv is an Indian painter, whose work is based on her uncle Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Osho)' teachings. Before moving to painting, she was a successful fashion designer. Apurv won the National Award 2015-16 given by the Lalit Kala Akademi, Ministry of Culture for her painting 'Cosmic Balance', and has exhibited her artwork across the country. Her artwork has featured in books and magazines, and in 2018 she wrote and illustrated her own book, The Mystic and Her Colours.
Pakala Tirumal Reddy (1915–1996) was an Indian artist. He was the fifth child born to Ram Reddy and Ramanamma at Annaram village, Karimnagar district, Telangana, India. He received his diploma in painting from J. J. School of Art, Bombay in 1939. He married Yashoda Reddy on 9 May 1947, and she completed a master's of art and Ph.D. degrees and authored over 22 compilations and novels.
C. L. Porinchukutty was an Indian artist and art educator. He was born in Thrissur in the erstwhile state of Cochin in 1932. He practised art under the tutelage of veteran artist P. I. Ithoop, a disciple of Abanindranath Tagore. After attaining a Diploma in Painting from the Government of Madras, he took a degree in English literature from the University of Kerala and Post-Graduation in Painting with Gold Medal from the University of Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Amar Nath Sehgal was a noted Indian modernist sculptor, painter, poet and art educator. He started his career as an engineer in Lahore, and later turned to art. He shifted to Delhi after partition of India in 1947, and in 1950 studied art education from New York University School of Education. Subsequently, became an art educator, teaching at College of Art, Delhi, and in time a noted modern sculptor to his generation. Though he also ventured into painting, drawings and poetry.

Rajasekharan Parameswaran, also known as Marthandam Rajasekharan, is an Indian art director and self-taught painter from Tamil Nadu. He holds two Guinness World Records.
Sajitha R. Shankhar is an internationally acclaimed contemporary artist from India. Her paintings are featured in numerous public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore; the National Gallery of Modern Art; the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts; Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhim; and the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art. Her preferred medium is charcoal and acrylic on paper. Her most recent installation is titled Tantric Yoni, a painting made out of turmeric, vermilion powder, rice powder, and burnt husk of paddy. The painting was created for the 2013 One Billion Rising campaign in Kochi.
M.K. Gopinathan Nair, popularly known as Vaisakhan, is an Indian short story writer, playwright, and screenwriter. As of 2016, he is the President of Kerala Sahitya Akademi. His stories are known for their simplicity in style and freshness in theme. Many of his stories feature the Indian Railways as the backdrop.
R. K. Damodaran is a poet and lyricist who has worked predominantly in the Malayalam movie industry. He also worked as a journalist in Mathrubhumi from 1982 to 2013. He has written lyrics for almost 3,600 songs in devotional, political, environmental, drama and light music genres, including two Sanskrit songs. He has worked in more than 100 Malayalam films and written songs like "Ravivarma Chithrathin", "Thalam Thettiya Tharatt", "Manjil Chekkerum", "Sukham", "Chandrakiranathin Chandanamunnum", "Thani Thankakkinapponkal" and "Pakalppoove".
Jagadish Chandra Dey, also known as Jagdish Dey, is an Indian painter and printmaker, known for his unique style of surrealism, where the real and unreal coexist. He has been a member of many art societies and juries.
B. D. Dethan is an Indian painter from the state of Kerala. A recipient of several awards and Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Fellowship 2007, he was a member of the executive committee of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi thrice. His paintings are featured in several private and public collections in India and abroad including, the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; Parliament House, New Delhi; Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and Raj Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. The Government of Kerala awarded him Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram for his achievements in the field of visual arts in 2019.
