Swearengin is an unincorporated community in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. A post office operated under the name Swearengin from 1881 to 1907. [2]

Its name is in honor of John Marshall, famous Chief Justice of the United States. Marshall County is a dry county, with the exception of the four cities of Albertville, Arab, Guntersville, and Boaz. Marshall County comprises the Albertville, AL Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Huntsville-Decatur-Albertville, AL Combined Statistical Area.

She was first elected in a run-off election in 2008 and was re-elected in 2012. Swearengin ran for State Controller in 2014. After leaving the mayor's office, she became the president/CEO of the Central Valley Community Foundation.
