TV5 is an Indian Telugu-language 24-hour news channel. [1] [2] It is launched on 2 October 2007 by Shreya Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd. [3] [2] It is founded by B. R. Naidu (Bollineni Rajagopal Naidu) of Chittoor. [4] [5] He is also the owner of hair product company, Nuzen Hair oil. [6] Naidu is the chairman, and Bollineni Ravindranath is the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the channel. [7] [8] [9] TV5 is popular for its incisive business reportage. [10]

History

TV5 is launched as a 24-hour Telugu news channel on 2 October 2007 by Shreya Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd. [3] [2] It is promoted by B. R. Naidu (Bollineni Rajagopal Naidu) of Chittoor. [11] [12] [4] [13] [5] Naidu previously ran a travel agency. He is also the owner of hair product company, Nuzen Hair oil. [6] TV5 is established from the profits of the hair oil business. [14] B. R. Naidu, Bollineni Ravindranath, and Bollineni Surendranath are the board members and directors of the company. [15] [6]

The parent company also broadcasts TV5 USA, exclusive to Telugu audience in the US. [9] In August 2016, TV5 launched a digital entity called TV5 Money, exploiting its business specialisation. It was made available as a YouTube channel, mobile app, website and on IPTV platforms. TV5 Money focuses on real time financial market coverage, business news, and life style content. [10]

On 29 March 2017, TV5 launched its devotional and spiritual channel, Hindu Dharmam on the occasion of Ugadi festival. [9] As of March 2017, TV5 had around 300 reporters covering the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. [9]

In September 2017, TV5 announced the launch of TV5 Kannada focusing on Karnataka to mark its tenth anniversary. [4] TV5 Kannada launched on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on 2 October 2017. [16]

Controversies

Conspiracy theory on Rajasekhara Reddy's death

In January 2010, TV5 broadcast a conspiracy theory by the American journalist Mark Ames in the Russian online tabloid The eXile , on the death of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash on 2 September 2009, alleging that Ambani brothers of Reliance group of companies orchestrated the death of Reddy. [11] [17] TV5 broke the story while Sakshi TV and NTV relayed the report aired by TV5. [18] [11]

The report led to massive attacks against the business establishments owned by the two Ambani brothers in Andhra Pradesh. [19] [5] [20] On 8 January 2010, senior executive editor of TV5, Brahmananda Reddy and input editor, P. Venkata Krishna were arrested by the CID police of Andhra. Criminal cases were also filed against Sakshi TV and NTV. [18] [21] Editors Guild of India asked the channels to desist from "irresponsible reporting" and condemned the reporting as sensational and against the principles of journalism. [20] However, various journalists' associations also protested against the arrest of TV5 journalists and called for the immediate release of the arrested duo, and the withdrawal of the cases filed against them. [17]

ABN Andhra Jyothy is an Indian Telugu-language 24-hour news channel launched on 15 October 2009. Aamoda Broadcasting Network is the holding company of the channel and is promoted by Vemuri Radhakrishna. The media house also owns the Telugu daily newspaper Andhra Jyothy.

The 2015 cash-for-votes scam was a political scandal in India, the second scandal of its kind since the 2008 cash-for-votes scandal. The 2015 political scandal started off when the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders of Telangana state were caught in a video footage, aired in the media, offering bribes to a nominated MLA, Elvis Stephenson, for his vote in the 2015 elections of the Telangana Legislative Council. The TDP MLA Revanth Reddy was arrested by the Telangana Police when he was offering Rs. 50 lakhs to Stephenson. Reddy was then presented before the court and was sent to jail. Similarly, with N. Chandrababu Naidu, the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, with Stephenson was aired in the news media.

Mekapati Goutham Reddy was an Indian businessman and politician from the state of Andhra Pradesh. He was the Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Information Technology in the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He was elected twice and served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing the Atmakur Assembly constituency on behalf of YSR Congress Party from 2014 until his death in 2022.

ETV Andhra Pradesh is an Indian Telugu-language 24-hour news channel focusing on the state of Andhra Pradesh. The channel was launched by the media conglomerate ETV Network owned by Ramoji Group on 28 December 2003 as ETV2. Along with its rival TV9 Telugu, it is the oldest 24-hour news channel in Telugu. In May 2014, after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the channel was renamed as ETV Andhra Pradesh, while the then recently launched ETV3 channel was renamed as ETV Telangana.
