Tagenarine Brandon Chanderpaul (born 31 May 1996) is a Guyanese cricketer who plays for Guyana in first-class cricket. [1] He is a left-hand opening batsman. He made his international debut for the West Indies cricket team in November 2022. [2] He is the eldest son of West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul. [3] He played the role of cricketer Larry Gomes in the Bollywood film 83. [4]
As a prolific run scorer for Guyana at youth level,he earned a spot in the Windies squad for the 2014 Under-19s World Cup held in the UAE.[ citation needed ]
During the World Cup,he scored an unbeaten 84 against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi. Chanderpaul's knock helped propel the Windies to an eventual 167 run win over the Zimbabweans. [5]
He then scored 93 against Canada to notch a consecutive man of the match award in a 67 run win. With this victory the West Indians progressed to the tournament's knock out stages. [5]
He plays for Guyana in first-class cricket and made his first-class debut in February 2013 at age 16 for Guyana against Leeward Islands in the regional four-day competition at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound.[ citation needed ]
His father Shivnarine had also made his first-class debut for Guyana as a teenager,when he was 18. Shivnarine was playing the Bangladesh Premier League and was away during the course of his son's debut.[ citation needed ]
He was dropped from the Guyana Jaguars Cricket team due to a lack of form however he was still offered a contract with the franchise along with fellow under19 stars:Shimron Hetmyer,Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie,[ citation needed ] all of whom made international debuts for the West Indies.
As of July 31,2015,he was listed in the Demerara senior team to partake in the Guyana Cricket Board Inter County four-day Competition,where he will look to be a prolific scorer and make a claim for a second burst in first-class cricket.[ needs update ] In the 2016–17 Regional Four Day Competition,Chanderpaul had the chance for several innings with his father;in March 2017,the Chanderpauls became the first father-son partnership to both score 50s in the same First-Class innings since CK and CN Nayudu in 1956–57. On 13th January 2018,Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored his maiden first class century against Barbados. He scored unbeaten 101 runs facing 275 balls hitting nine boundaries. Finally match ended in a draw. [7]
On 10th January 2019 Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored another century against Windward islands. He scored 117 runs facing 484 deliveries hitting 10 boundaries. Finally Guyana won the match by 8 wickets. [8]
In October 2019,he was named in Guyana's squad for the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament. [9]
He managed to bring his fine form. He was the second-highest run-getter in the 2021-22 West Indies four-day championship. He scored 439 runs in eight innings at an average of 73.16 including two centuries. His third first class century came against Barbados scoring unbeaten 140 runs which Guyana won the match by 5 wickets. [10] His fourth first class century came against Jamaica scoring 184 runs facing 425 balls hitting 27 boundaries. Finally the match was drawn. [11] [12]
In 2023,Tagenarine was selected to West Indies A team for first class matches against Bangladesh. During the final match in the series he scored half centuries in both innings. He is the second highest run scorer in the series. He scored 275 runs in 5 innings including three half centuries with the average of 68.75. [13] [14]
In January 2015 as a 18 year old,he made his Youth International debut for the U19 West Indies side,playing 11 matches, [15] including the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the UAE,scoring 293 runs in 6 matches,including a century and two 50s. [16] In August 2022,he was called up to the West Indies A side during the 2022 Bangladesh A tour of the West Indies,scoring an unbeaten century in the second Four Day Game. He scored unbeaten 109 runs from 337 deliveries hitting nine boundaries. Finally the match ended draw. [17] [18]
On the back of this performance,he was called up for the 2022 West Indian tour of Australia. [19] During the warm up match against the Prime Minister's XI in Canberra in November 2022,he scored a century and half century,opening the batting. [20] Chanderpaul made his debut in the first Test in Perth,receiving his Test cap from Brian Lara. [21] He scored his maiden test half century in first innings and 45 runs in second innings. [22] He top scored in each innings in the second Test in Adelaide (47 and 17) where West Indies were defeated by 419 runs. [23] On 5th February 2023,Chanderpaul scored his maiden test century against Zimbabwe. Next day he converted his century into double century becoming tenth West Indies batman to do so. Chanderpaul scored unbeaten 207 runs and put 336 run partnership with West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite,becoming first pair to put 300+ opening stand for West Indies breaking 33 year old record. Finally the match was drawn and Chanderpaul won player of the match award for his performance. [24]
In December 2023,he was selected in West Indies squad for the test match series against Australia. [25] In the first test match,he got out for a duck in the first innings and scored only 6 runs in the second innings. [26]
He is an ethnic Indo-Guyanese.
In 2017,he and his father Shivnarine Chanderpaul became the first father-son duo since 1931 to hit half-centuries in the same first-class match,when they achieved it against Jamaica,playing for Guyana. [27]
Shivnarine "Shiv" Chanderpaul CCH is a Guyanese cricket coach and former captain of the West Indies cricket team. Considered one of the greatest batsmen of his era,Chanderpaul is the 10th highest run scorer of all time in International cricket and the 9th highest in Test cricket. Chanderpaul was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy,and in the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy Final,he had the highest contribution for West Indies with the bat,scoring 47 runs.
Ramnaresh Ronnie Sarwan is a former Guyanese cricketer who played as a batsman. He is a former member and former captain of the West Indies cricket team,in all formats. Sarwan went on to average over 40 in both the test and one day international forms of cricket. He is considered to be one of the best West Indian batters of his generation. Sarwan was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy,and was subsequently the player of the tournament.
Narsingh Deonarine is a Guyanese cricketer,who has played for the West Indies.
Daren Ganga is a former Trinidadian cricketer. He was a right-handed top order batsman and part-time right-arm off spinner. He was named the 2006 West Indies Players' Association 'Test player of the year',Ganga captained the Windies' youth,A and senior teams together with Trinidad and Tobago. Ganga is also the most successful captain ever,with four titles,in West Indian List A tournaments.
Denesh Ramdin is a former Trinidadian cricketer who plays as a right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman. Ramdin formerly captained the West Indies,Guyana Amazon Warriors,Trinidad and Tobago and the Combined Campuses and Colleges. He was a member of the West Indies team that won both the 2012 T20 World Cup and the 2016 T20 World Cup.
Joseph Stanislaus Solomon was a Guyanese cricketer who played 27 Test matches for the West Indies from 1958 to 1965,scoring 1,326 runs,mainly from number six and seven in the batting line-up. He also bowled occasional leg-breaks but was best known as a brilliant fieldsman. He was best remembered for his role in the famous Tied Test match between the West Indies and Australia in 1960 at the Gabba,where he was involved in two direct hit runout dismissals.
The 2005–06 West Indian cricket season includes all domestic cricket matches played by senior teams with first-class status in the West Indies between October 2005 and March 2006,and also the international feats of the West Indies team,who is not scheduled to play any home games during this period but are to play home matches during April,May and June 2006. The season began on 2005-10-03 with the first matches of the one-day KFC Cup and is scheduled to last until 2006-03-19 when England A depart after their tour which will include one-day and first-class matches against the West Indies A team. Andre Fletcher is a Grenadian cricketer who plays internationally for the West Indies. He is a right-handed batsman and often keeps wicket. He played domestic cricket for Windward Islands and Grenada. He was one of the few international cricketers to have come from Grenada. Fletcher was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2016 T20 World Cup.
Adrian Boris Barath is a former West Indian cricketer. A right-hand opening batsman for Trinidad and Tobago,Barath made his Test debut in November 2009,becoming the youngest West Indian to score a century. He played his first One Day International (ODI) in March the following year. He is also the second youngest West Indian to have scored a century in first-class cricket,after Bruce Pairaudeau. Barath played his final test match for West Indies in 2012.
Leon Rayon Johnson,is a Guyanese born cricketer who plays as a right handed middle order batsman. He has featured for the West Indies,Guyana and Guyana Amazon Warriors in his career. Captaining both the West Indies at youth level and Guyana,Johnson is tied with Tamar Lambert of Jamaica as the most successful captain in West Indian first class cricket tournaments.
The West Indies cricket team toured England for a two-match Test series and a three-match ODI series from 6 to 26 May 2009. They toured in place of Zimbabwe.
Darren Michael Bravo is a Trinidadian cricketer who plays international cricket for the West Indies. A left-handed batsman,his batting style has drawn comparisons with Brian Lara. Bravo is the younger half brother of fellow West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo and his mother is the first cousin of former cricketer Brian Lara. Bravo was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 T20 World Cup.
Kraigg Clairmonte Brathwaite is a Barbadian cricketer who captains the West Indies in Test cricket. He is a right-handed batsman and occasionally bowls off breaks. On 6 November 2011,he became only the second West Indian to score two Test fifties before his 19th birthday when he made 63 (212) against India in Delhi. He has also effectively stood as stand-in-captain in place of Jason Holder in seven test matches before becoming the permanent captain of the test team taking over from Holder. He idolises Shivnarine Chanderpaul and his batting style.
Shai Diego Hope is a Barbadian cricketer,who plays as a wicketkeeper/batsman for the West Indies cricket team. He is also the current ODI captain of the Windies. In June 2018,he was named the Men's Cricketer of the Year,Test Cricketer of the Year and the ODI Cricketer of the Year at the annual Cricket West Indies' Awards. The following year,he was named the CWI ODI Player of the Year. He is generally regarded as one of the best ODI batsmen in the contemporary cricketing world. Hope has also twice been named,for both 2020 and 2022,in the ICC ODI Team of the Year.
Shane Omari Dowrich is a former Barbadian international cricketer who plays as a wicket-keeper. He has featured for the West Indies,Barbados along with CPL teams St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents in his cricketing career. Dowrich is also the current captain of the Barbados' first class side.
Gudakesh Motie is a Guyanese cricketer who plays for Guyana in West Indian domestic cricket. He is a left-arm orthodox bowler. He made his international debut for the West Indies cricket team in December 2021.
Joshua Da Silva is a Trinidadian cricketer. He made his domestic debut in 2018 for Trinidad and Tobago,and his international debut for the West Indies cricket team in December 2020.
Matthew Nandu is a Canada born Guyanese cricketer who also plays for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. His father Arjune Nandu is also a first-class cricketer who went onto appear in four first-class matches for the Guyana team. His playing style is often compared with former Guyanese batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
