The Tampa Bay Storm were a professional arena football team based in Tampa, Florida, U.S. that played in the Arena Football League (AFL). Originally located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and operated as the Pittsburgh Gladiators, the franchise was one of the original four that launched the Arena Football League for its inaugural, 1987 season. The club was relocated to Tampa for the 1991 season, being the last of the original teams to either fold or leave its market. After 26 years in the Tampa market, the team ceased operations in December, 2017.
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was a full-contact Women's American football league that was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Laurie Frederick, Deborah DelToro, and K Disney were the league's founders.

The Women's Football Alliance (WFA) is a professional full-contact Women's American football tackle league that began play in 2009. It is the largest 11-on-11 football league for women in the world, and the longest running active women's football league in the U.S. Since 2016, the league has operated with three competitive levels: Pro, Division 2 and Division 3. The league is owned and operated by Jeff King and Lisa Gibbons King of Exeter, California.
Jan van der Veen is a retired Dutch professional association football player who played for Sparta Rotterdam, Royal Antwerp, Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II and Helmond Sport. He also played in the NASL between 1978 and 1983 for the San Diego Sockers, Tampa Bay Rowdies and California Surf. Jan scored Tampa Bay's lone goal in the 22nd minute of Soccer Bowl '79 (NASL league final), which the Rowdies lost 2-1. He also played in the Major Indoor Soccer League for the Phoenix Inferno and the Wichita Wings.
