"Tears" is the song by British singer and songwriter Perrie. It was released on 21 June 2024, through Columbia Records, as the second single from her upcoming debut studio album. [1] The song is lyrically about coming out of a bad situation and letting go of what has happened in the past. [2]

Background and release

After the release of her debut single "Forget About Us", Perrie teased her new song through a 'No Tears Hotline', where a voicemail could be heard playing a snippet of the track. Having already hinted at the song's title across her and her team's socials, she released playlists of its reference points and called on her team to describe its sound. On 7 June 2024, she revealed its artwork, release date and the song was released on 21 June 2024. [3]

Composition and lyrics

Prior to its release date, Carl Smith from Official Charts, described "Tears" as "a smooth, '80s-tinged break-up anthem, that sees "Perrie break new ground sonically as she sends some strong parting words to an ex". The song was given to her during a writing session in Los Angeles, by the head of Columbia Records. It was written by Feli Ferraro and produced by Ido Zmishlany. [4]

Commercial performance

The single debuted at number 69 on the UK Singles Chart. [5]

On 16 June 2024, "Tears" received its first performance at Capital FM's Summertime Ball. [6] [7]

Capital's Summertime Ball is a mini-festival in London, held on either first or second Saturday or Sunday of June by the radio station Capital. The first ball was at Emirates Stadium in 2009, and it has since been held at Wembley Stadium. The 2020 Summertime Ball was to be held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because Wembley was due to host games of Euro 2020, but was eventually cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Whoops" is a song by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor from her sixth major-label studio album, Timeless (2024). Trainor wrote the song with Sean Douglas and its producers, Gian Stone and Grant Boutin. Epic Records released it as the album's third single on June 24, 2024. "Whoops" is a pop-doo-wop break-up song, on which she addresses an ex-partner and derides the woman who he cheated on her with.
