Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) is a governing body to control certain regulatory and safety functions related to the power sector in the Indian state of Telangana. [3] [4] [5]

History

As a consequence of the formation of the Telangana State, the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) was constituted on 3 November 2014. [6] It was incorporated under the Electricity Regulatory Commission Act, 1998, a Central Act, in August 1999. In 2003, under section 82 of the Electricity Act, the commission continued as the regulatory body in the state. [7] [ better source needed ]

Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), a key regulator of the power sector in India, is a statutory body functioning with quasi-judicial status under sec – 76 of the Electricity Act 2003. CERC was initially constituted on 24 July 1998 under the Ministry of Power's Electricity Regulatory Commissions Act, 1998 for rationalization of electricity tariffs, transparent policies regarding subsidies, promotion of efficient and environmentally benign policies, and for matters connected Electricity Tariff regulation. CERC was instituted primarily to regulate the tariff of power generating companies owned or controlled by the Government of India, and any other generating company which has a composite scheme for power generation and interstate transmission of energy, including tariffs of generating companies.

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) (http://www.merc.gov.in) is a governing body to control certain regulatory and safety functions in Maharashtra based in Mumbai. It was incorporated under the Electricity Regulatory Commission Act, 1998, of Central Act in August 1999. In 2003, Under Section 82 of the Electricity Act the Commission is continued as regulatory body in state. It was established to promote competition, efficiency and economy in the power sector. It also regulate tariffs of power generation, transmission and distribution in Maharashtra.

The commissions are vested with legislative and judicial powers to resolve conflicts between licence holders of production and distribution of electricity, or consumers and electricity distribution entities, and authority to draft regulations and sub ordinate regulations. The president and other members of such commissions are appointed by state governments in consultation with the Chief Justice of the state High Court.

The commission is vested with legislative and judicial powers to resolve conflicts between license holders of production and distribution of electricity, or consumers and electricity distribution entities and with authority to draft regulations and sub ordinate regulations. The President and other members of State Electricity Regulatory Commission (India) are appointed by Government of Punjab in consultation with the Chief Justice of state High Court.
