The Bastrop Advertiser is a weekly newspaper covering Bastrop, Texas, and wider Bastrop County. Founded in 1853, [1] it is one of the oldest continually operating weeklies in the state of Texas; and along with papers like the Elgin Courier, is considered the newspaper of record for some of the small rural towns in the Greater Austin region. Bateman is an unincorporated community in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The town is located on Farm to Market Road 86, five miles southwest of Red Rock, 18 miles southwest of Bastrop and 45 miles southeast of Austin.

Park Road 1 is a Park Road located in Bastrop and Buescher state parks, in the central region of the U.S. state of Texas. The highway is approximately 33.6 miles (54.1 km) long, and passes through mainly rural park land. PR 1 also includes most main roads in the two parks. Because of this, the highway has been divided into five different routes; they are PR 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, and 1E. PR 1C makes up most of the route, while three of the segments are less than a mile long. The route was first drafted by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1933, as a scenic drive between the two parks. It was designated in 1937 as one of the state's originally designated Park Roads and has been extended and altered multiple times since.

Though it was not the first paper in Elgin –prior to 1890 there was The Meteor, The Times, and others – it has long been the paper of record for not just Elgin, but much of the surrounding communities of McDade, Coupland, and other areas in Bastrop County, along with The Bastrop Advertiser and media from the larger city of Austin.
