The Deanes (formerly The Deanes School) is a co-educational secondary school located in Thundersley in the English county of Essex. [1]
The school takes its name from an area of forest called The Deanes Wood – so called because it was owned by the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral. West Wood, as it is now known, immediately adjoins the school to the south-east. The wood is now owned by Castle Point Borough Council.
In September 2013 Essex County Council announced their intention to close The Deanes School due to falling pupil numbers. There was considerable opposition to the proposed closure from local residents, [2] and in February 2014 the Schools Adjudicator ruled that the school would remain open. [3]
In February 2015 it was announced that the school had been awarded a grant from the government's priority schools building programme. The grant was used for the school science block including the ICT, arts and food technology departments. [4]
Previously a foundation school administered by Essex County Council, in October 2016 The Deanes School converted to academy status and was renamed The Deanes. The school is now sponsored by the South East Essex Academy Trust [5]
The Deanes offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. In addition the school offers The Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme. [6]
Harold Hill is a suburban area in the London Borough of Havering, East London. 16.6 miles (26.7 km) northeast of Charing Cross. It is a district centre in the London Plan. The name refers to King Harold II, who held the manor of Havering-atte-Bower, and who was killed at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Daws Heath contains a large area of woodland in eastern Thundersley, part of Castle Point near Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England. It is traversed by the Daws Heath Road and St Michael's Road. Daws Heath provides a semi-rural escape for local towns and villages and their residents as they walk, cycle or drive out of Castle Point, as Daws Heath Road has fields and woodland on both sides of the road with a small scattering of houses. Going down Daws Heath Road it is not uncommon to see rare-breed cattle, sheep and horses. Daws Heath is surrounded by Greenbelt and Woodland which are a buffer to stop the local villages merging by development. West Woods, nearly 80 acres (320,000 m2) of mixed woodland, was purchased from the Church of England in 2009, securing continued public access to these woods; public support in the Daws Heath area is very strong especially on green belt and woodland preservation. The area has established neighbourhood watch schemes, Church Groups and Greenbelt Protection Groups. Daws Heath contains The Deanes,, and is linked to a local Sixth Form College in Thundersley (SEEVIC), now part of USP College.

Bury St Edmunds County High School, previously Bury St Edmunds County Upper School, is a 13 to 19 co-educational comprehensive high-performing academy part of the Bury St Edmunds All-Through Trust, comprising County High School, Horringer Court School, Westley School and Barrow CEVC and Tollgate Primaries. It is one of three 13-18 schools serving the town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England and its surrounding villages. Pupils enter Year 9 primarily from three catchment middle schools in Bury St Edmunds but pupils are drawn widely from across the villages and towns of West Suffolk. The school is often over-subscribed with 266 first-choice applicants in 2009/10, 287 in 2010/11, 282 for 2011/12, 279 for 2012/13 and 268 for 2014/15 against a LEA Planned Admission Number of 260. In September 2013 the number of pupils on roll was 992 and it is expected that will remain relatively unchanged for the foreseeable future. The school is located on Beetons Way, on the outskirts of town, next to St Benedict's Roman Catholic Upper School, with which it used to collaborate in the sixth form.

Seevic College was established as a sixth form college in 1972, with Seevic originally being an acronym for South East Essex Sixth (VI) Form College. Seevic and Palmer's now make up two of the college's three campuses, with the XTEND Digital Campus in Canvey Island forming its third campus. There were 3,588 students enrolled to the college as of November 2021.
