Woodlands School is a secondary school in Basildon, Essex. The school currently educates more than 1600 students from Basildon and South East Essex.
The school is on a single site and is made up of one main building. Woodlands School offers English, maths, science, languages (German, Spanish and French), geography, history, personal and social education, information and communication technologies, performing arts, media studies, design technology, art and physical education.
Previously a community school administered by Essex County Council, Woodlands School converted to academy status on 1 April 2015. However the school continues to coordinate with Essex County Council for admissions.
Traditionally, a month after Year 11 students begin study leave and a month before their exam results are revealed, a prom is held for the students.(by parents)
Every academic year, Woodlands School appoints 90 Year 11 students as prefects. Each prefect is given a department to work within. From these prefects, 15 head prefects are chosen, these are also known as Senior Prefects. There is a head boy and head girl . The school has recently introduced deputy head boy and deputy head girl.
Since 2005, the school has been working to expand its specialism in performing arts into the local community. Community youth organisations are now working in partnership to use funding from Essex County Council's Youth Opportunities Fund and Youth Capital Fund to complete the construction of the Theatre.
In 2006, Woodlands School was working with Creative Partnerships, The Basildon Arts Trust, [1] Support Through Art, Loco Motion (Youth Group) and many other organisations to host an arts festival flagshipped by the surreal performance spectacular 'Einsteins Dreams.' The producers - Greg Klerkx and Sam Holdsworth - formed a new company called Nimble Fish [2] after the success of 'Einsteins Dreams'.
On 16 Oct 2013 an OFSTED inspection took place which was officially released on 6 Dec 2013, which gave the school an Inadequate rating. Woodlands have since had a second ofsted inspection in 2014 and were brought out of special measures. Simon Cox was appointed Head Teacher for September 2014. The latest report was on 19 April 2018 following an inspection on 7 March 2018. The results were as follows:

The Hathaway Academy, formerly the Grays School Media Arts College, is a coeducational, non-selective secondary school with academy status that is located in Grays, Essex, England. It is currently part of the Academy Transformation Trust. A school has existed on the Hathaway Road site since 1931, when the John Henry Burrows Central Council School moved from nearby Bridge Road. The school became a secondary technical in 1945 and a comprehensive school in 1971. In 1993, it was given grant-maintained status and was renamed the Grays School. In 2004, it specialised and became the Grays School Media Arts College, which closed in June 2013 with the subsequent opening of the current academy-status school. Burnt Mill Academy is a secondary school academy and specialist performing arts college situated on First Avenue in Harlow, Essex, England. The school originally opened in May 1962 as Burnt Mill Comprehensive School, de jure keeping this name until academisation in 2011. In 2003, it became a specialist performing arts college, specialising in dance, drama and music. It joined the Confucius institute programme in 2007, partnering with Suzhou Lida Middle School in Jiangsu, China. This granted the school an International School Award. USP College is a large general further education college in Essex, England. It was established in August 2017 from the merger of Palmer's College in Grays, Thurrock, and Seevic College in Thundersley, Benfleet, and traces its history back to the establishment of Palmer's as a charity school in 1706. Seevic College was established as a sixth form college in 1972, with Seevic originally being an acronym for South East Essex Sixth (VI) Form College. Seevic and Palmer's now make up two of the college's three campuses, with the XTEND Digital Campus in Canvey Island forming its third campus. There were 3,588 students enrolled to the college as of November 2021.
William Edwards School, commonly referred to by locals and students as Willy Eds, is a coeducational secondary comprehensive school with academy status, in Grays, Essex, England. It is a founding member of the South West Essex Community Education Trust (SWECET) and is its leading member. The current headteacher of the school is Simon Bell. The school first opened on 11 September 1962, gained specialist sports college status in 2002 and in 2004 also became a training school.
