The Fragrance Foundation is the non-profit, educational arm of the international fragrance industry, [1] founded in 1949. [2] It sponsors the annual Fragrance Foundation Awards, awarded since 1973. [2]


History and operations

Linda G. Levy is the president Jerry Vittoria is chairman of the Fragrance Foundation. [3] In January 2015, former U.S. President Bill Clinton was the speaker at inaugural program Fragrance Foundation Talks, where he spoke about the "work with Haitian artisans and the fragrance houses for purchasing vetiver from more than 30,000 earthquake-stricken farmers," among other global issues. [1]

Known as the "Oscars of the fragrance industry," the Fragrance Foundation Awards (formerly named the FiFi awards) is an annual event. [4] Conceived by former president, Annette Green, the Awards event have been held annually in New York City since 1973 and are attended by around 1,000 people. [2] [5]

Categories include Fragrance of the Year, Best Packaging, Best National Advertising Campaign, Bath & Body Line, Interior Scent Collection, Fragrance Hall of Fame, Editorial Excellence in Fragrance Coverage, Scent Bite, Technological Breakthrough of the Year and Perfumer of the Year, Life Time Achievement. National Sense of Smell Day

National Sense of Smell Day is an annual event sponsored by the Sense of Smell Institute. [7] [8] It is held on the last Saturday of April at children's museums and science centers across the United States. The day is focused on how the sense of smell plays an important role in daily life and how it interacts with other senses (particularly taste). Typically, museums and science centers celebrating the day will feature hands-on activities and informational displays about the sense of smell. [7]

National Fragrance Day

The Fragrance Foundation launched a Fragrance Day in 2018. [9] [10] The first day was celebrated on March 21, 2018, and numerous brands and retailers held promotions and social media campaigns. [9] [11]

Sophia Grojsman is a Belarus-born American perfumer. Grojsman is a Vice President of International Flavors and Fragrances, a perfume and scent company whose annual sales exceed two billion dollars (USD). She is one of the most prolific perfumers of our time, having created some of the most game-changing perfumes in the last thirty years. Her mastery with rose in all its facets as well as her 'hug me' accord has influenced modern perfumery as we know it today.

Olivia Giacobetti French perfumer

Olivia Giacobetti is a French perfumer. She has an independent line called Iunx and has also created fragrances for Diptyque, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Guerlain, and Hermès, among other lines. She is particularly known for a refined style as well as innovation such as her novel use of fig in perfumery, popularizing the note beginning in the mid-1990s. She is among the perfumers who became prominent in a late-20th and early-21st-century turn toward the "nose" behind the scent and independent lines that foreground these creators, a shift away from perfumes sold by fashion labels or celebrities in other fields.

<i>M</i> (fragrance)

M is a women's fragrance from Elizabeth Arden, and is the first perfume to be endorsed by American singer Mariah Carey.

Roja Dove

Roja Dove is a Perfumer whose fragrances are sold at department stores worldwide. Born and raised in Sussex, South East England, his career in perfumery began in 1981 when he joined the French perfume house Guerlain, working there for 20 years before leaving to set up his own companies RDPR and then Roja Parfums.

Mandy Aftel is an American perfumer. She is the owner and nose behind the natural perfume line Aftelier as well as the author of nine books, including four books on natural perfume and a cookbook on essential oils.

Basenotes is a United Kingdom-based online fragrance resource which includes a fragrance database, message boards and editorial. The site was launched in August 2000 by Grant Osborne as an information site for men's fragrance and grooming. In 2004, the site expanded to include feminine fragrances.

Christophe Laudamiel is a French perfumer. He is founder and master perfumer of DreamAir creative studios in New York City, where he currently resides. In 2019 he was named chief perfumer to BélAir Lab in Tokyo: a perfume composition and technology studio newly managed by Roto Pharmaceuticals. He is a founder and president of the non-profit Academy of Perfumery and Aromatics.

Celine Dion Parfums is a brand line of celebrity-endorsed perfumes by Canadian singer Celine Dion and Coty, Inc., with global retail sales of more than $850 million by March 2010. As of 2011, there have been 14 perfumes that have been released. A new fragrance called Signature, was released in September 2011.

Beyoncé Pulse

Beyoncé Pulse is the third women's fragrance created and endorsed by Beyoncé, with Bruno Jovanovic and Loc Dong of IFF. The ad's tagline is "Feel the Power." Beyoncé Pulse comes in an upside-down chrome-and-blue bottle, neatly tucked into a holographic carton, inspired by Knowles' fashion during stage performances. It features notes of pear blossom, peony, midnight blooming jasmine, Madagascar vanilla, and bluebird orchid.

S by Shakira

S by Shakira is the first woman's fragrance by Colombian singer songwriter Shakira. Developing an interest in perfumery and scents, Shakira signed an agreement with international fashion company Puig to create a line of beauty and personal care products. S by Shakira is an amber perfume which combines scents of various exotic sources like sambac jasmine, sandalwood, and vanilla. The bottle of the perfume is made of treated glass which reflects light at different angles; it does not have a cap and instead utilises a key-like mechanism to stop the flow of the perfume. Shakira launched S by Shakira at a press release in Madrid, Spain, in June 2010, and it was sent to retail stores in September 2010. Critics praised the scent of S by Shakira, but there was criticism regarding the design of the bottle. It was nominated for a FiFi Award in 2011.

Lady Gaga Fame

Lady Gaga Fame is the first fragrance created by American singer Lady Gaga. A women's fragrance, it was released in Guggenheim Museum and in Macy's stores in the United States and a range of different stores in the United Kingdom on August 22, 2012, and worldwide in September through the singer's Haus Laboratories label in association with Coty, Inc. According to promotional materials, the perfume uses "push-pull technology", rather than the pyramidal structure traditional of perfumes, to combine notes of atropa belladonna, tiger orchid, incense, apricot, saffron and honey. As of 2013, the perfume has sold more than 30 million bottles and has earned more than 1.5 billion dollars worldwide.

Bond No. 9 is an American, New York-based perfume house launched in 2003 by Laurice Rahmé, as the first and only niche New York fragrance company.

Stephen Dowthwaite

Stephen V. Dowthwaite is an English perfumer, perfumery educator, programmer and writer. He is the founder of PerfumersWorld, a resource for professional perfumers. He is known for developing The ABC's of Perfumery, a comprehensive system of odour classification and perfume creation, and a training course in The Art and Technology of Perfumery.

Founded in 2012, The Institute for Art and Olfaction is a non-profit organization devoted to advancing public, artistic and experimental engagement with scent.

Karyn Khoury is an American perfumer. She is Senior Vice President of Fragrance Development Worldwide for The Estée Lauder Companies. In 2012, Khoury was honored as one of the most influential fragrance developers of our time at the Visionaries Gala and Awards Ceremony by the Museum of Arts and Design in New York along with Sophia Grosjman.

Christine Nagel Swiss perfumer

Christine Nagel is a Swiss perfumer. She has served as the in-house perfumer at Hermès since 2016. Prior to joining Hermès she created designer perfume hits like Narciso Rodriguez for Her and Miss Dior Chérie (2005), as well as niche perfume like Wood Sage & Sea Salt, one of 47 perfumes she created for Jo Malone London. She has been recognized with awards from the Fragrance Foundation France, the François Coty Foundation, and the Marie Claire International Fragrance Awards.

Randi Shinder is a Canadian businesswoman and entrepreneur in the retail, online beauty, and wellness industry. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, and later moved to Ottawa, Ontario, and currently resides in both Toronto and Miami.
