The History Channel: Great Battles of Rome is a historical real-time tactics video game developed by Slitherine, released on 8 June 2007 by Black Bean Games and the History Channel for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, and PSP. [2] The game garnered mostly mixed reviews.
Four other History Channel branded games by Slitherine were released: History: Great Empires – Rome in 2009 for the Nintendo DS, [3] [4] History: Ice Road Truckers in 2010 for the PSP, [5] [6] History: Egypt – Engineering an Empire in 2010 for the DS, PSP, PC, and iOS, [7] [8] and History: Great Battles – Medieval in 2010 for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Android, and iOS. Core components of the game would be used for the battle simulation used in the Spike TV series Deadliest Warrior [12]
Great Battles of Rome sees the player take control of the army of the Roman Empire in the first half of the game. The player engages in a number of set battles against a range of enemies from Etruscans, Greeks, Gauls, and Persians. Following the completion of the Roman portion of the game, the player is given control of the army of the Celts to command in a number of other battles. [13]
Before each battle commences, the player is given the option to arrange twenty units within a set zone. These units range from skirmishers and archers to heavy cavalry and War Elephants. Players are also given the option to give their army a number of commands to be executed once the battle has begun. After each successful battle the player earns denari which can subsequently be used in order to purchase new units, or upgrade existing ones, before the next battle.

Upon release Great Battles of Rome received mixed reviews. The main criticisms of the game were repetitive gameplay, substandard graphics, and a poor control scheme.
Total War is a series of strategy games developed by British developer Creative Assembly for personal computers. They combine turn-based strategy and resource management with real-time tactical control of battles. Rather uniquely for real-time strategy games, flanking manoeuvers and formations factor heavily into gameplay. The first of the series, Shogun: Total War, was released in June 2000. The most recent major game released was Total War: Pharaoh on 11 October 2023. As of April 2021, the series had sold over 36 million copies.
Rome: Total War is a strategy video game developed by The Creative Assembly and originally published by Activision; its publishing rights have since passed to Sega. The game was released for Microsoft Windows in 2004. The Mac OS X version was released on February 5, 2010, by Feral Interactive, who also released the iPad version on November 10, 2016, the iPhone version on August 23, 2018, and the Android version on December 19, 2018. The game is the third title in The Creative Assembly's Total War series, following Shogun: Total War, and Medieval: Total War.

Virtua Tennis 3, known in Japan as Sega Professional Tennis: Power Smash 3, is the second arcade game sequel to Sega's tennis game franchise, Virtua Tennis. The arcade version of Virtua Tennis 3 is powered by the PC-based Sega Lindbergh arcade system board. Spartan is a turn-based strategy game developed by Slitherine Strategies in 2004. The game is set in ancient Greece and Asia Minor. Spartan is a turn-based game; however, when armies encounter each other in battle the game switches to real time combat available in both 2D and 3D visuals. Most reviewers were positive about the extent of simulated real history present in the game but were critical of how timid the AI is which hampered the playing experience.
Commander: Europe at War (CEaW) is a World War II turn-based strategy computer game. The game was codeveloped by Slitherine Software and Firepower Entertainment, and allows gamers to play either the Axis or the Allies. Commander features six scenarios, 50 inventions from five technology branches, and 12 different unit classes. A sequel, Commander: Napoleon at War, was released in 2008. Another sequel, Commander: The Great War, was released in 2012.

Horrible Histories: Ruthless Romans is a 2009 educational adventure video game theme on Ancient Rome as part of the Horrible Histories franchise, which began in 1993. The game was released on Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows and is narrated by Terry Deary, the author of the Horrible Histories book series. It is named after Deary's 2003 book Ruthless Romans, his second on the topic after 1999's Rotten Romans.
Legion is a turn-based computer wargame with a historical setting, designed by Slitherine and released in 2002. In Legion, the player attempts to build a powerful army by controlling villages and defeating enemies with the ultimate goal of dominating a region. An updated version, Legion Gold, was released in 2003. A port for OS X was released in 2003, developed by Freeverse. A sequel, Legion II, was announced on November 16, 2004 for a 2005 release.

Battle Academy is a series of two turn-based strategy video games developed and published by Slitherine Software in the 2010s. The first game, BBC Battle Academy, was released in 2010. The second game, Battle Academy 2: Eastern Front, was released in 2014.
