Uiju Airfield( IATA :UJU, ICAO :ZKUJ) is an airport in Uiju County,Pyongan-bukto,North Korea.
In May 1982,three STYX Cruise Missile containers arrived at the airfield’s ordnance storage facility. The storage facility consisted of two large,two medium concrete bunkers,two vehicle storage buildings,and three support buildings. In January 1983,25 Ilyushin Il-28 departed from the airfield and were deployed to Taetan Airport. [2] In November 1983,a STYX Cruise Missile and associated STYX equipment was deployed on the airfield. [3]
In March 2021,the airfield served as the Uiju Quarantine Center,as North Korea’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. By December,the quarantine center opened. The center alos served as a cargo decontamination facility for containers brought in by freight trains from China. [4] In August 2024,the containers were all removed. After three years of absence,31 Ilyushin IL-28 medium-range bombers arrived at the airfield. The bombers belonged to the 24th Bomber Regiment.
In October 2024,31 H-5 bombers were spotted on satellite having returned to the airfield,along with several other H-5 and Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 that were likely not airworthy. [5]
The airfield is home to the Korean People's Army Air Force's 24th Bomber Regiment,which has at least 32 Harbin H-5 (Ilyushin Il-28) bombers on site as of 2010.
The airfield has a single concrete runway 05/23 measuring 8180 x 174 feet (2493 x 53 m). [6] It is sited in the Yalu River plain,a few miles northeast of the Chinese city of Dandong. It is also a few miles northeast of Sinuiju Airport. It has a full-length parallel taxiway,and several taxiways that access dispersed aircraft stands.

Olenya has been a major Russian Navy reconnaissance base,located on the Kola Peninsula 92 km south of Murmansk. As of 2020,units at the base are subordinate to the Long-Range Aviation branch of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The base and its staff settlement,across Lake Permusozero from the city of Olenegorsk,are served by the Olenegorsk rail station. Olenya has served as the headquarters for 5 MRAD,and has hosted two reconnaissance regiments. Its 3500-meter runway is the longest on the Kola Peninsula,making it a key facility for intercontinental flights across the North Atlantic basin.
Ugolny Airport is a mixed-use military and civil airfield in the Russian Far East located 11 km east of Anadyr,separated from the town by the waters of Anadyrsky Liman. The airfield was originally constructed in the 1950s as a staging base for Long Range Aviation bombers such as the Tupolev Tu-95 and Tupolev Tu-22M. During the Cold War years it became the primary hub for civilian flights in the Chukotka region.

Long-Range Aviation is a sub-branch of the Russian Aerospace Forces responsible for delivering long-range nuclear or conventional strikes by aircraft. Ostrov is a Russian Aerospace Forces air base in Pskov Oblast,Russia located 7 km southeast of Ostrov and 57 km south of Pskov. It was subordinate to the Baltic Fleet and was a nuclear bomber facility with 15 very large revetments on the east side of the airfield and about 30 small revetments on the west side. As many as 63 Tupolev Tu-16s were based here. A US intelligence analysis in 1984 identified a normal complement of 52 Tu-16 aircraft at Ostrov. The base hosted the Russian Navy's 444th Center for Combat Employment and Retraining of Personnel Naval Aviation.
Engels-2 is a strategic bomber military airbase in Russia located 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) east of Saratov. Engels is a major bomber operations base,and is Russia's sole operating location for the Tupolev Tu-160 strategic bomber. The base has a 3,500-metre (11,500 ft) runway and about 10 large revetments. It is named after the nearby city of Engels,which is named after the Communist philosopher,Friedrich Engels.
