The 2014 congressional election in Montana was held on November 4, 2014, to determine who will represent the state of Montana in the United States House of Representatives. Montana has one at-large seat in the House, apportioned according to the 2010 United States Census.

U.S. state constituent political entity of the United States

In the United States, a state is a constituent political entity, of which there are currently 50. Bound together in a political union, each state holds governmental jurisdiction over a separate and defined geographic territory and shares its sovereignty with the federal government. Due to this shared sovereignty, Americans are citizens both of the federal republic and of the state in which they reside. State citizenship and residency are flexible, and no government approval is required to move between states, except for persons restricted by certain types of court orders. Incumbent Republican Congressman Steve Daines was first elected in 2012. Instead of running for re-election, he successfully ran for the U.S. Senate election in 2014. [1] Representatives are elected for two-year terms; the elected will serve in the 114th United States Congress from January 3, 2015 until January 3, 2017.

In the 2014 Senate election, Daines won an open seat, defeating Democratic nominee Amanda Curtis.

In 2013 and 2015 she served as a state Senator.

Corey Stapleton American politician

Corey Stapleton is an American politician and the Secretary of State of Montana. A Republican, he is also a former Montana State Senator from 2001 to 2009. He is a candidate for Governor of Montana in the 2020 election.

Denny Rehberg American politician

Dennis Ray Rehberg is an American politician and member of the Republican Party. He served as the Lieutenant Governor of Montana from 1991 to 1997 and as the U.S. Representative for Montana's at-large congressional district from 2001 to 2013. Rehberg was the Republican nominee for the United States Senate in 1996 and 2012, losing to Max Baucus 50% to 45% and to Jon Tester 49% to 45%, respectively. He subsequently became a co-chairman at Mercury, a Washington D.C. lobbying firm.

The Montana House of Representatives is, with the Montana Senate, one of the two houses of the Montana Legislature. Composed of 100 members, the House elects its leadership every two years.

Max Baucus American politician

Max Sieben Baucus is a retired American politician and diplomat who served as a United States Senator from Montana from 1978 to 2014. A member of the Democratic Party, he was a U.S. Senator for nearly 36 years, making him the longest-serving Senator in Montana history. President Barack Obama appointed Baucus to replace Gary Locke as the 11th United States Ambassador to China, a position that he held from 2014 until 2017.

Amanda Gayle Curtis is a Democratic Party politician and member of the Montana House of Representatives, representing Butte in House District 74. A teacher by profession, Curtis has been teaching math and physics since 2006 and continued to do so while the Montana Legislature was out of session.

Michael Charles "'Mike" Fellows was an American political activist and Army reservist. He was also a state coordinator for the Montana Fully Informed Jury Association. In the 1990s he issued a press release calling for the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Fellows made political history in 2012 by becoming the first Libertarian candidate ever to gather more than 40% of the vote in a partisan statewide race. Prior to running, that level had never been achieved.

The election was necessitated by Incumbent Republican Representative Ryan Zinke's appointment as United States Secretary of the Interior. Zinke resigned on March 1, 2017, upon his confirmation.
