VIF Airways was a private Air Taxi operator based in Hyderabad, India. Its main base was Begumpet Airport. It ceased operations after only a few months of commencement of services.

Begumpet Airport at Hyderabad, also known as Hyderabad Old Airport, is a civil enclave located in Begumpet. The airport is home to the Rajiv Gandhi Aviation Academy (RGAA), the Telangana State Aviation Academy and the Begumpet Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force. Begumpet used to be the International and Domestic airport of Hyderabad, until the opening of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on 23rd March 2008 after which it ceased all civil operations. The last flight to take off was a Singapore Airlines flight at 11:40 pm on 22 March 2008.

History

VIF Airways was founded as a Private Limited Company in May 1993, with its registered office at Hyderabad. They had ordered five aircraft [2] but flight operations commenced in April 1995 [3] with a single Dornier 328, making it the first operator of the type in Asia [4] and the only operator of that type of aircraft in India. The airline shut down in 1996. [5] [6]

The Dornier 328 is a turboprop-powered commuter airliner. Initially produced by Dornier Luftfahrt GmbH, the firm was acquired in 1996 by Fairchild Aircraft. The resulting firm, named Fairchild-Dornier, manufactured the 328 family in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, conducted sales from San Antonio, Texas, United States, and supported the product line from both locations. There is also a jet-powered version of the aircraft, the Fairchild Dornier 328JET.

Visakhapatnam Airport is an International Airport located in Visakhapatnam, India. It is the largest and busiest airport in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It also operates as a civil enclave on an Indian Navy air base named INS Dega. It is located in between the city localities of NAD Cross Road and Gajuwaka. The airport has experienced significant growth since the beginning of the 21st century, with the construction of a new terminal and runway and commencing of international flights. The airport covers an area of 350 acres.
