The squadron was established on 9 October 2020 at Naval Air Station North Island, California.

It serves as the Navy's CMV-22B Osprey fleet replacement squadron with the mission of delivering the best pilots, aircrew, and maintainers to the Fleet; each skillfully trained to provide timely, persistent combat logistics for sustained Carrier Strike Group lethality, anywhere in the world.
