Victoria R. Woodards (born July 16,1965) [1] is an American politician serving as the 39th mayor of Tacoma,Washington. [2] [3] A Democrat,she formerly served for seven years as an at-large member of the Tacoma City Council. [4] [1]
During Woodards' tenure on the Tacoma City Council,she worked to establish the city of Tacoma's Office of Equity and Human Rights. Woodards was also a member of the board of Metro Parks Tacoma,and served as president of the Tacoma Urban League. [5] Woodards was first elected as mayor in 2017,and won a second term in 2021. [6] She serves on the advisory board of the United States Conference of Mayors and is vice-chair of the organization's Committee on Jobs,Education,and the Workforce.
In the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries,Woodards initially supported former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg before endorsing Joe Biden. [7]
In 2022,Woodards was elected as president of the National League of Cities. [8]

President Joe Biden nominated Bottoms as vice chair of civic engagement and voter protection at the DNC for the 2021–2025 term. Bottoms currently serves as a member of the President's Export Council.

Before becoming mayor,Lightfoot worked in private legal practice as a partner at Mayer Brown and held various government positions in Chicago. She served as president of the Chicago Police Board and chair of the Chicago Police Accountability Task Force. In 2019,Lightfoot defeated Toni Preckwinkle in a runoff election for Chicago mayor. She ran again in 2023 but failed to qualify for the runoff,becoming the city's first incumbent mayor to not be reelected since Jane Byrne in 1983.

Incumbent Kim Wyman,a Republican,resigned from the office on November 19,2021,to become the senior election security lead for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in the Biden administration's Department of Homeland Security. Washington governor Jay Inslee,a Democrat,announced he would appoint state senator Steve Hobbs as her replacement,the first Democrat to hold the office in more than fifty years.
