Volutella ciliata |
Volutella is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Nectriaceae. [2]
The fungal genus was established by Fries (1832) with Volutella ciliata (Alb. & Schwein.) Fr. as the type species. [1] It had about 47 species in 2011, however, many species were later revised and transferred to other genera such as Calonectria , Coccinonectria , Lectera , Koorchaloma , Pseudonectria and Volutellonectria [3] and only 11 species have sequence data in GenBank. Gräfenhan et al. (2011) then revised the genus and accepted three species viz. Volutella ciliata, Volutella consors and Volutella citrinella into Volutella. [3] Later, seven additional species were introduced in the genus. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
The genus is characterized by discoid sporodochia (or synnemata) with marginal setae, sparingly branched to verticillate conidiophores, compact and phialidic conidiogenous cells, and 1-celled, ovoid to oblong conidia. asexond asexual morph is present in some species with two or more whorls of conidiogenous cells. [3] [10] [6] [7]
As accepted by Species Fungorum [11] , although many are now classified in other genera.
Former species (all are Nectriaceae, unless stated); [11]
The Nectriaceae comprise a family of fungi in the order Hypocreales. It was circumscribed by brothers Charles and Louis René Tulasne in 1865. In 2020, an Outline of fungi was produced and listed 70 genera and about 1,336 species.
Hypocreomycetidae is a subclass of sac fungi.
Byssosphaeria is a genus of fungi in the family Melanommataceae.
Lasionectria is a genus of fungi in the class Sordariomycetes. It consisted of six species in 2008, and 16 in 2023.
Muyocopron is a genus of fungi in the Muyocopronaceae family.
Microthyrium is a genus of fungi in the Microthyriaceae family.
Keissleriella is a genus of fungi, that was originally placed in the Massarinaceae family, before being placed in the Lentitheciaceae family.
Apiospora is a genus of fungi which cause plant diseases. It gives its name to the family Apiosporaceae, which contains a number of other genera. This is historically a name for the teleomorph (sexual) life-cycle stage of the fungus; for some species the corresponding anamorph name is Arthrinium.
Tubeufia is a genus in the Tubeufiaceae family of fungi.
Cosmospora is a genus of ascomycete fungi in the family Nectriaceae. The genus, as circumscribed by Rossman et al. (1998), included all the nectrioid species with small, reddish, non-ornamented sexual fruiting bodies that collapse laterally when dry. However, the genus was shown to be polyphyletic, and the majority of species were re-classified into revived or recently established genera that are monophyletic. Cosmosporasensu Rossman housed members of the following genera: Chaetopsina, Cylindrocladiella, Fusicolla, Macroconia, Mariannaea, Microcera, Pseudocosmospora, Stylonectria, and Volutella. Cosmospora was restricted to species having acremonium-like asexual morphs that grow on polypores and xylariaceous fungi by Gräfenhan in 2011. About 20 species are accepted in the genus.
Neonectria is a genus of fungi in the family Nectriaceae.
Glomerellales is an order of ascomycetous fungi within the subclass Hypocreomycetidae (Sordariomycetes). The order includes saprobes, endophytes and pathogens on plants, animals and other fungi with representatives found all over the world in varying habitats.
Clonostachys is a genus of fungi in the order Hypocreales and family Bionectriaceae.
Mariannaea is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Nectriaceae.
Stilbella is a genus of fungi in the order Hypocreales. The relationship of this taxon to other taxa within the order is unknown, and it has not yet been placed with certainty into any family. It is sometimes placed in the family Bionectriaceae.
Microcera is a genus of Ascomycete fungi in the Nectriaceae family.
Thozetella is a genus of fungi in the family Chaetosphaeriaceae. This has been confirmed with analyse of 3 genes and morphological comparison.
