Warangal Metro is a proposed metro system to serve the city of Warangal, Telangana, India with a stretch of 15 kilometers, from Kazipet railway station to Warangal railway station through its suburbs. The system is proposed to reduce traffic congestion as well as providing a modern and efficient public transport system in the city. The Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit (MRT) system serving the city of Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region in Maharashtra, India. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is the responsible authority for maintaining the metro system. Maha Metro is responsible for all the metro rail projects undergoing in Maharashtra except the Mumbai Metropolitan Area. The system is designed to reduce traffic congestion in the city, and supplement the overcrowded Mumbai Suburban Railway network. It is being built in three phases over a 15-year period, with overall completion expected in October 2026. Mumbai Metro is the sixth longest operational metro network in India with operational length of 46.4 km (28.8 mi) as of January 2023. When completed, the core system will comprise fourteen high-capacity metro railway lines and one metrolite line, spanning a total of 356.972 kilometres (221.812 mi), and serviced by 286 stations.
Warangal is a city in the Indian state of Telangana and the district headquarters of Warangal district. It is the second largest city in Telangana with a population of 704,570 per 2011 Census of India, and spreading over an 406 km2 (157 sq mi). Warangal served as the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty which was established in 1163. The monuments left by the Kakatiyas include fortresses, lakes, temples and stone gateways which, in the present, helped the city to become a popular tourist attraction. The Kakatiya Kala Thoranam was included in the emblem of Telangana by the state government and Warangal is also touted as the cultural capital of Telangana.
Kazipet is the major educational and transport hub in Hanumakonda district in the Indian state of Telangana. It is a city in Warangal Tri-City, and a mandal in Hanamakonda district. Kazipet falls under Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation.

Bengaluru Suburban Railway is an under construction suburban rail network for the city of Bengaluru. A Suburban Rail system for the city was first proposed in 1983. Since then, several different route proposals were made but no Suburban Rail project took shape. It was finally approved in the 2019 Railway Budget. On 1 February 2020, finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned in her budget that the project would be implemented at cost of Rs 18,600 crores. The central government would provide 20% of the equity and facilitate external assistance up to 60 percent of the project cost. It will be first of its kind and unique in India as it will have metro like facilities and rolling stock. It has slowest design speed among all the new suburban rail projects currently being implemented in India as Nagpur broad-gauge Metro and National Capital Region Transport Corporation are building rail tracks for design speed of 200 km/h with operating speed of 160 km/h.
Urban rail transit in India plays an important role in intracity transportation in the major cities which are highly populated. It consists of rapid transit, suburban rail, monorail and tram systems. According to a report published in 2021, a total of 2.63 billion people travelled annually in metro systems across India's fifteen major cities, placing the country as one of the busiest urban rapid transit hubs in the world in terms of ridership. The combined length of 859 kilometres of metro systems in India makes it the fourth longest in operation in the world.
The Bhoj Metro is an under construction rapid transit system intended to serve the city of Bhopal, India, the capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The total system consists of 6 corridors covering a distance of 104.87 kilometres (65.16 mi). The first phase of the Bhopal Metro project consists of 28 km of line 2 & 5 being under construction. This project will cost ₹80 billion (US$1.0 billion) approximately. There will be three types of run – on road, on bridges, and underground in some locations.[3]
The Indore Metro is a rapid transit system which is under construction for the city of Indore, India. The total system consists of 11 corridors (lines) covering a distance of 124 kilometres (77 mi). This project will cost approximately ₹12,000 crore (US$1.5 billion). The cost per km will be 182 crores and total cost is 15,000 crores. The metro system will be elevated, underground and on ground. The Indore Metro project has been subject to serious contestation due to the inappropriate shifting of Seismic zone-II to Seismic zone-IV category which has led to increase in budgetary cost for the entire project.
Patna Metro is a rapid transit system currently under construction in the city of Patna in Bihar, India. It will be owned and operated by the state-run Patna Metro Rail Corporation. In the first phase, five stations of Patna Metro will be operational first by March 2025. It is being constructed under a Public Private Partnership mode and is estimated to cost ₹13,365.77 crore (US$1.7 billion). This cost is excluding land acquisition cost, which is to be borne by the Bihar government. The first phase: the east–west corridor and north–south corridor will consist of a 23.30 km (14.48 mi) elevated track and 16.30 km (10.13 mi) underground track.
Nagpur Metro is a rapid transit system for the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. It is estimated to cost ₹8,650 crore. In February 2014, the Government of Maharashtra gave approval for the Metro Project, while the Government of India's Ministry of Urban Development had given "In Principle" approval for the Project. On 20 August 2014, Union Cabinet gave approval for the development of project, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone on 21 August on his visit to the city. Construction on the project began on 31 May 2015, with trial run beginning on 30 September 2017.
The Greater Nashik Metro or Metro NEO is a proposed rapid transit system in the Nashik Metropolitan Region. The system is proposed to reduce traffic congestion as well as provide direct connectivity to Nashik city from its suburbs. The Greater Nashik Metro will connect suburbs of Nashik city like Deolali, Nashik Road, Upnagar, Nashik Airport, Sinnar, Igatpuri, Gangapur Road, Trimbakeshwar, Dindori, Bhagur, Niphad, Adgaon, Ghoti Budruk and Girnare.
Warangal Railway station is located in Warangal city, Telangana state in southern India. The station and all trains are operated by Indian Railways' Secunderabad railway division, which is part of the South Central Railway Zone. The station is on the New Delhi–Chennai line that runs to Vijayawada, Allahabad and New Delhi. A neighboring railway station is Kazipet Junction. Warangal Station is part of the Visakhapatnam - Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express connecting Hyderabad to Visakhpatnam in 8 hours and 30 minutes
Visakhapatnam Metro is a planned rapid transit system for the city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India. The system is proposed to reduce traffic congestion as well as providing a modern and efficient public transport system in the city which became the largest city and the main hub for economic activity of Andhra Pradesh after the state's bifurcation. It will be the only Indian city which will have a combination of both metro and tram. Once constructed it will be the world's largest metro prepared in a PPP model. Initially proposed for Metro Rail alignment for a length of 42.55 km in the city. Now, Government have planned to expand the Metro Rail system to cover more routes in the city as well as in the VMRDA area.
The Varanasi Metro is a light rail transit system proposed for the city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The proposed system consists of 2 corridors that span from BHEL to Banaras Hindu University (19.35 km) and Benia Bagh to Sarnath (9.885 km). The feasibility study of the project was done by RITES and was completed in June 2015.
Coimbatore Metro, also known as Kovai Metro, is a proposed rapid transit system for Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Warangal Monorail was a proposed monorail system to serve the city of Warangal, Telangana, India with a stretch of 17 kilometers, from madikonda, Kazipet, Hanamkonda to warangal.
Line 3 of the Pune Metro is the third line of the city's under-construction mass transit network. It will run from Civil Court, Pune to Megapolis Pune in Hinjawadi. The 23.3 km (14.5 mi) line will be completely elevated and will have 23 stations and will align with the MahaMetro lines at the Civil Court interchange station. The construction will be taken up in two phases, the section between Hinjawadi and Balewadi is expected to be taken up first followed by the section between Balewadi and Civil Court, Shivaji Nagar. A metro car shed will be built in Hinjawadi. The MIDC will provide 55 acres of land in Hinjawadi for setting up a Metro rail depot. On 3 August 2018, PMRDA announced the final bidder for the project — the joint venture Tata Realty-Siemens. and Siemens On 3 October 2018, Tata Realty-Siemens were awarded the contract to execute the project on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer model. The formal concession agreement was signed in September 2019 with the construction expected to begin in March 2020. The project is set to be completed in March 2023.
The Thane Metro is a planned Mass Rapid Transit system for the city of Thane, Maharashtra, India. It will feature 22 stations along a 29 kilometres (18 mi) route and will be connected to lines 4 and 5 of the Mumbai Metro. It'll be also integrated and connected to the proposed New Thane Railway Station and existing Thane Railway Station. The project will be implemented by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation.
