Kazipet Junction railway station (station code:- KZJ) [1] is located in Hanamkonda district of Telangana, in India. It is a crucial railway junction connecting Northern and Southern India.
With the completion of the Kazipet–Balharshah link in 1929, Chennai was directly linked to Delhi. [2] [3]
The Wadi–Secunderabad line was built in 1874 with financing by the Nizam of Hyderabad. It later became part of Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway. In 1889, the main line of the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway was extended to Vijayawada, then known as Bezwada. [4]
As of 1909, "From Wadi on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway, the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway runs east to Warangal and then south-east towards Bezwada on the East Coast section of the Madras Railway." [5]
The Dornakal–Kazipet sector was electrified in 1988–89, the Kazipet–Ramagundam sector in 1987–88 and the Kazipet–Secunderabad sector in 1991–93. [6]
Kazipet railway station [7] has computerized reservation counters, retiring room, waiting room, vegetarian and non-vegetarian refreshments and book stall. [8]
Coal freight from Singareni, Kothagudem, Ramagundam, Bellampalli and Balharshah mines account for around 40 per cent of the goods traffic handled by the railways in the Kazipet–Balharshah sector. [9]
A new 201.04 kilometres (124.92 mi) railway line has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs between Balharshah Junction and Kazipet. The new line will be passing through Warangal, Ramagundam, Mancherial and Asifabad districts in Telangana, and through Chandrapur in Maharashtra. [10] This will facilitate both the passenger traffic and goods movement that include cement, coal and food. [11]
In October 2023, the Hadapsar-Hyderabad Express was extended to Kazipet. [12]

Warangal is a city in the Indian state of Telangana and the district headquarters of Warangal district. Warangal served as the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty which was established in 1163. The Secunderabad–Danapur Superfast Express is a daily train operated by Indian Railways between Secunderabad and Danapur via Varanasi Junction. Secunderabad–Danapur Express was earlier known as Manikarnika Express and Patna Express.
Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway (NGSR) was a railway company operating in India from 1883 to 1950. The company began with a line built privately by the HEH, the Nizam, which was owned and operated by the company under a guarantee from the Hyderabad State. Capital for the line was raised by issuing redeemable mortgage debentures. The Nizam's railway was eventually consolidated with the Hyderabad-Godavari Valley Railway (HGVR). In 1951, both the NGSR and the HGVR were nationalised and merged into Indian Railways.

The 17233 / 17234 Bhagyanagar Express is the oldest Express train in India. It runs between Secunderabad Junction in Telangana and Balharshah Junction in Maharashtra. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the route terminates at Sirpur Kaghaznagar railway station. It was introduced on November 1, 1970. The Vijayawada railway division in the South Central Railway zone of Indian Railways administers the train.
Peddapalli Junction is a railway station that serves Peddapalli town of Peddapalli district in state of Telangana, India. The station is located on New Delhi–Chennai main line that connects North and South India, and also serves as the junction point for the Peddapalli-Nizambad line.
