Westwood Mall is an enclosed shopping mall serving the community of Jackson, Michigan. It opened in 1972 and the mall's anchor stores are JCPenney and Walmart. There is 1 vacant anchor store that was once Younkers.
The mall was built in 1972 with Wurzburg's and Montgomery Ward as its anchor stores, but Wurzburg's sold its store to J.W. Knapp Company shortly before completion. Original tenants included Claire's, Motherhood Maternity, Kinney Shoes, Waldenbooks, Spencer Gifts, Circus World Toys, Merle Norman Cosmetics, and Walgreens. The Knapp store sold to JCPenney in 1980. [1] Elder-Beerman was added as a third anchor in September 1993. [2] General Growth Properties acquired the mall from Forbes/Cohen in 1998, along with nearby Lansing Mall and Lakeview Square Mall. In 2004, Walmart opened its first Jackson location on the site vacated by Montgomery Ward three years prior. [4] [5] Five years later, the company expressed interest in purchasing houses behind the mall to build a retention basin. [6]
Several stores closed in the mall in the late 2000s, including Gap, [7] Ritz Camera and an original tenant, Crown & Carriage Gifts. [8] Despite the loss of these stores, the mall retained a higher occupancy rate than the national average. [9] The Elder-Beerman store was re-branded Younkers in 2012. [10]
On April 18, 2018, it was announced that Younkers would be closing as parent company The Bon-Ton Stores was going out of business. The store closed on August 31, 2018. [11]
In February 2021, the mall was sold to the Kohan Retail Investment Group. [12]

Lansing Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in Delta Charter Township, Michigan, United States, just outside Lansing, the state capital of Michigan. Opened in July 1969, the same year as its crosstown competitor Meridian Mall, Lansing Mall consists of 830,052 square feet (77,114.4 m2) of gross leasable area, with approximately 60 stores and restaurants, as well as a food court. Its original anchor stores were Wurzburg's, Federal's, and Montgomery Ward. Only three years after opening, Wurzburg's and Federal's were replaced by J.W. Knapp Company (Knapp's) and Robert Hall Village respectively. In 1979, the Robert Hall space was then vacated as part of an expansion project that also added a new mall wing ending in Hudson's, while J. C. Penney replaced Knapp's a year later and Mervyn's joined in 1987. The mall's anchor stores remained unchanged between then and the first decade of the 21st century: Hudson's was renamed to Marshall Field's, which itself later became Macy's, while the bankrupted Montgomery Ward and Mervyn's were replaced with Younkers and a Regal Entertainment Group movie theater. Following the closures of Macy's and Younkers, the mall's only operational anchor store is J. C. Penney. Other major tenants include Dunham's Sports, Barnes & Noble, a food court, Zap Zone XL, and a 12-screen movie theater. Concord Mall was an enclosed shopping mall serving Elkhart, Indiana, United States. It opened in 1972, featuring Montgomery Ward and Robertson's as its anchor stores, with JCPenney being added on in 1976. Robertson's was converted to Meis, Elder-Beerman, and Carson's before closing in 2018, while Montgomery Ward was divided between Hobby Lobby and ABC Warehouse. These are also the only two stores open at the mall, which otherwise closed for business in 2023.
