The Shops at Westshore, formerly Westshore Mall, is an open air shopping mall in Holland, Michigan. It opened in 1988 and the mall's anchor tenants are Burlington, Grand Rapids Community College, and Dunham's Sports. There is 1 vacant anchor store that was once Younkers.

History

Bramalea built the mall in 1988. Its original anchors were JCPenney, Sears, Prange's (which converted to Younkers in 1992), and Steketee's. [2]

The Steketee's store, the last one in the chain, closed in 2003. [3] The same year, its space was converted to Dunham's Sports. [4] Sears closed in 2004 [5] and became Steve & Barry's from February 2007 to December 2008. [6]

JJ Finnegan's restaurant, an original tenant, closed its location at the mall in 2009. Afterward, the mall owners took the restaurant owners to court for failure to pay rent. At this point, Westshore Mall was over 30 percent vacant. [7] The increasing vacancy came from increased competition when the larger Rivertown Crossings and The Lakes Mall were built nearby. In 2010, a bank purchased the mall for $7.8 million. [8]

In November 2014, a local developer announced plans to begin "de-malling" the complex into an outdoor shopping mall. [9] Work began on "de-malling" in mid-2015. The only stores remaining operational throughout the reconstruction are JCPenney, Younkers, Dunham's Sports, Buckle, and GNC. Also at this point, the complex was renamed The Shops at Westshore. [10] On March 23, 2016, it was announced that Burlington Coat Factory was opening in the space formerly occupied by Sears. On that same day, it was announced that Fed Ex Office was being relocated from across US-31. Also, on that same day, it was announced that Disc Traders and T-Mobile were both opening as well. On March 17, 2017, it was announced that JCPenney was closing as part of a plan to close 138 stores. JCPenney closed on July 31, 2017. Younkers closed in 2018.

In 2019, it was announced that Urban Air Trampoline Park would be opening, and that Grand Rapids Community College would open classrooms in the former JCPenney. [11]

Westdale Mall was an enclosed super-regional shopping mall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States. The two-level mall on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids is one of the city's two enclosed malls, along with Lindale Mall on the city's northeast side. By 2012, Westdale displayed some characteristics of a dead mall as two of its four anchor stores and an estimated 70 percent of inline stores have been vacated as of January 2013. At the beginning of 2013, local investor group A. Shapiro LLC purchased Westdale Mall. In January 2013, Frew Development Group, LLC leased the mall and its property from A. Shapiro, LLC. Frew Development is investing $90 million into the redevelopment of the mall, converting it to an open air destination and re-branding it as Westdale Town Center. In 2020, Frew Development Group, LLC acquired the ground lease from A. Shapiro, LLC and today is the sole owner of Westdale Town Center. The mall's anchor stores are JCPenney, Ross Dress for Less, U-Haul, Burlington, and PetSmart. Since 2018, Frew has developed a Tru by Hilton hotel, a Home2 by Hilton, a Boulder Tap House restaurant, and a US Veteran's Medical Clinic.

Shops at CenterPoint is an open air strip mall located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States. It opened in 1967 as Eastbrook Mall, a year before the larger Woodland Mall opened across the street. Throughout 2012 and 2013, the center underwent renovation tearing off half of the mall to become an outdoor shopping mall instead called The Shops at Centerpointe.

The anchor store is Kohl's. There are 3 vacant anchor stores that were once Macy's, Bergner's, and Sears. The fifth anchor store, JCPenney, has been rebuilt, partially demolished, and subdivided into in-line mall retail space. The mall is owned and managed by CBL & Associates Properties.

Westland Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in West Burlington, Iowa. Opened in 1977, the mall's anchor stores are Bargain Warehouse of Burlington and Westland Theatre. There are 2 vacant anchor stores that were once Marshalls and Younkers. It is owned by 4th Dimension Properties.

Wausau Center was an enclosed shopping mall which opened in 1983 in downtown Wausau, Wisconsin. The last remaining anchor store was HOM Furniture, which still stands in a space that had previously been a Younkers. There were two vacant anchor stores that were once JCPenney and Sears. It was managed by Mid-America Real Estate Group.
