The cinema of Bangladesh, better known as Dhallywood, is the Bengali-language film industry based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has often been a significant film industry since the early 1970s. The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.

Bangladesh Short Film Forum (BSFF) is an organization of young Bangladeshi film makers. It was formed on 24 August 1986 by a group of young independent filmmakers and activists who were then campaigning for creative and aesthetically rich cinema.

As Selim's large-screen debut, and contemporary-folk soundtrack released ahead of screening which were an instant hit, it received a huge media hype even before its release. Zulfiqer Russell is a much admired Bangladeshi lyricist and journalist. He is currently the editor of the popular online news site, The Bangla Tribune. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the film Putro (2018). He was the winner of the Citycell-Channel i Music Award in 2008, 2010, and 2013 and also received the Mirchi Music Awards (Bangla) award for the Song of the Year in the Modern Song category for, "Shabuj Chilo". It was screened at 51st International Film Festival of India in January 2021 in the Country in Focus section.

Taneem Rahman Angshu is a National Award winning Bangladeshi film director, screenwriter, editor and CGI Artist who largely works in Bengali Films and TV productions. His first feature film Shopner Ghor (2018), was a horror film which had critical success. He won the Best Director (Bangladesh) for Shopner Ghor at 18th Telecine Award in Kolkata, India. His second film No Dorai (2019), was a major commercial success and won six national awards at Bangladesh's 33rd National Film Award (2019) including the Best Director and Best Film Category. No Dorai also won FIPRESCI at 18th Dhaka International Film Festival. Angshu also won Best Music Video Award in Channel-I Music Awards for two consecutive years, 2016 and 2017.
