Anthony John Mullane, nicknamed "Count" and "the Apollo of the Box", was an Irish Major League Baseball player who pitched for seven teams during his 13-season career. He is best known as an ambidextrous pitcher who could throw left- and right-handed, and for having one of the highest career win totals of pitchers not in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The 1885 Cincinnati Red Stockings season was a season in American baseball. The team finished second in the American Association, 16 games behind the St. Louis Browns.

The 1887 Detroit Wolverines season was a season in American baseball. The team won the 1887 National League pennant, then defeated the St. Louis Browns in the 1887 World Series. The season was the team's seventh since it entered the National League in 1881. It was the first World Series championship for the Detroit Wolverines and the City of Detroit.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pete Conway</span> American baseball player (1866–1903)

Peter J. Conway was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball for five seasons with the Buffalo Bisons (1885), Kansas City Cowboys (1886), Detroit Wolverines (1886–1888), and Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1889). He won two games for Detroit in the 1887 World Series and followed in 1888 with a season record of 30 wins and 14 losses. He was also the first coach of the Michigan Wolverines baseball team in 1891 and 1892.

The 1887 World Series was won by the Detroit Wolverines of the National League, over the St. Louis Browns of the American Association, 10 games to 5. It was played between October 10 and 26, in numerous neutral cities, as well as in Detroit and St. Louis. Detroit clinched the series in game 11.

Charles H. "Pretzels" Getzien was a German-born American professional baseball pitcher. He played all or parts of nine seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) with five different National League teams from 1884 to 1892. He was the first German-born regular player in the National League.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1886 World Series</span>

The 1886 World Series was won by the St. Louis Browns of the American Association over the Chicago White Stockings of the National League, four games to two. The series was played on six consecutive days running from October 18 to October 23 in Chicago and St. Louis.
