The 2000 US Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the USTA National Tennis Center in New York City in New York in the United States of America. It was the 120th edition of the US Open and was held from 28 August through 10 September 2000.

Serena Williams and Venus Williams were the defending champions, but withdrew from their semifinal match against Cara Black and Elena Likhovtseva.

Julie Halard-Decugis and Ai Sugiyama won the title, defeating Cara Black and Elena Likhovtseva 6–0, 1–6, 6–1 in the final. It was the first and only Grand Slam doubles title for Halard-Decugis, and the first Grand Slam doubles title for Sugiyama, in their respective careers.

Ai Sugiyama is a Japanese former tennis player. She reached the world No. 1 ranking in women's doubles on the WTA Tour and had a career-high singles ranking of world No. 8, achieved on February 9, 2004. In her career, she won six singles and 38 doubles titles, including three Grand Slam titles, and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title. Sugiyama held the all-time record, for both male and female players, for her 62 consecutive Grand Slam main-draw appearances, until she was surpassed by Roger Federer at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships.

The 2000 US Open was held between August 28 – September 10, 2000. It was the final Grand Slam event of 2000.

Lindsay Davenport defeated the three-time defending champion Martina Hingis in the final 6–1, 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2000 Australian Open. This was her only Australian Open title and also her third and final Grand Slam singles title. She did not lose a set during the tournament. The loss ended Hingis' 27-match win streak at the Australian Open, dating back to 1997.

Serena and Venus Williams defeated Julie Halard-Decugis and Ai Sugiyama in the final, 6-3, 6-2 to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 2000 Wimbledon Championships. They became the first pair of sisters to win the title. It was their third major title in doubles, and the third component in an eventual career Golden Slam in doubles. The Williams sisters had only played three events thus far into the season, and only entered the draw via a wildcard.

The 1999 Australian Open women's doubles was the women's doubles event of the eighty-seventh edition of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year and the most prestigious tournament in the Asia-Pacific and the Southern Hemisphere. Martina Hingis and Mirjana Lučić were the defending champions, but Hingis competed with Russian Anna Kournikova, and Lučić competed with Frenchwoman Mary Pierce. Martina Hingis and Nathalie Tauziat won the title by defeating Julie Halard-Decugis and Ai Sugiyama 6–3, 3–6, 6–4 in the final. It was the 11th title for Hingis and the 21st title for Tauziat in their respective doubles careers.

While Likhovtseva teamed up with Amanda Coetzer and lost in first round to Sugiyama and Julie Halard-Decugis, Sugiyama teamed up with Halard-Decugis and successfully defended her title by defeating Martina Hingis and Mary Pierce in the final, 6–0, 6–3.
