Defending champion Roger Federer defeated Andre Agassi in the final, 6–3, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–1 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2005 US Open. It was his second US Open title and sixth major title overall. This was Agassi's last appearance in a major final.
Roger Federer defeated Lleyton Hewitt in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–3), 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 US Open. It was his first US Open title and his fourth major title overall. With the win, he became the tenth man to win three majors in a calendar year.
Two-time defending champion Pete Sampras defeated Andre Agassi in the final, 6–3, 6–4, 7–5 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships. With his sixth Wimbledon crown, Sampras broke Björn Borg's Open Era record of five Wimbledon men's singles titles and equalled Roy Emerson's record of twelve men's singles major titles overall. Sampras's victory over Agassi in the final is often cited as one of the greatest performances in a Wimbledon final. However, despite his victory, Sampras lost the world No. 1 ranking to Agassi, who had recently won the French Open and was attempting to complete the Channel Slam.
Roger Federer defeated Marat Safin in the final, 7–6(7–3), 6–4, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 Australian Open. It was his first Australian Open title and second major title overall. With the win, Federer gained the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in his career, and would hold the position for a record 237 consecutive weeks.

Lleyton Hewitt defeated Pete Sampras in the final, 7–6(7–4), 6–1, 6–1 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2001 US Open. It was his first major title.
Goran Ivanišević defeated Patrick Rafter in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–3, 2–6, 9–7 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2001 Wimbledon Championships, with the final held on the third Monday in front of a boisterous crowd, after Ivanišević's semi final against Tim Henman took three days to complete due to rain. It was Ivanišević's first and only major title. Ivanišević became the first unseeded player to win the title since Boris Becker in 1985, and the first wild card to win a Major. His ranking improved by 109 places following the win, from world No. 125 to world No. 16. Ivanišević had reached the Wimbledon final three times before but lost each time.
Pete Sampras defeated Andre Agassi in the final, 6–3, 6–4, 5–7, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2002 US Open. It was his record-extending 14th major title. The final was also a rematch of the 1990 and 1995 US Open finals, where Sampras won his first and seventh major titles respectively. It was Sampras' last professional appearance, though he did not officially declare his retirement until 2003. Sampras became the only man in the Open Era to win the final major he played.

It was his fourth Australian Open title, and his eighth and last major title overall. With the win, Agassi claimed his 21st consecutive match win at the Australian Open, as he won the title in 2000 and 2001.
