The 2008 European Rally Championship season was the 56th season of the FIA European Rally Championship. Italian driver Luca Rossetti won 4 of the 9 rallies to claim his first European rally championship title.

Calendar and winners

The calendar of the 2008 season consisted of only 9 events, after the ELPA Rally not taking place in that year. The remaining events were unchanged from the previous year. [1]

Marcus Grönholm Finnish rally driver

Marcus Ulf Johan Grönholm is a Finnish former rally and rallycross driver, being part of a family of the Swedish-speaking population of Finland lineage. His son, Niclas Grönholm, is an upcoming FIA World Rallycross Championship driver. Grönholm's nicknames are either "Bosse" or "Magic Marcus". Gronholm is one of the most successful WRC drivers of all time, ranking third in rally wins (34), and winning two championships, in 2000 and 2002. After Peugeot withdrew from the World Rally Championship, Grönholm moved to Ford for the 2006 season and placed second in the drivers' world championship, losing out to Sébastien Loeb by one point. The next year he again placed second, four points behind Loeb. He and his co-driver Timo Rautiainen retired from rallying after the 2007 season but returned to the championship in 2009 driving a private Subaru for a short period of time, and in the 2019 World Rally Championship where he competed in a Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT-maintained Toyota Yaris under the GRX Team banner.

The Circuit of Ireland International Rally is an annual automobile rally, which was first held in 1931 making it the third oldest rally in the world. The most recent event was held in 2016.

The 2008 World Rally Championship was the 36th season of the FIA World Rally Championship. The season consisted of 15 rallies and began on 24 January, with the 2008 Monte Carlo Rally. Frenchman Sébastien Loeb successfully retained the Drivers' World Championship, his and co-driver Daniel Elena's record-breaking fifth consecutive title, all of them attained driving Citroëns. In addition, Citroën secured their fourth Manufacturers' title, and their first since 2005, from 2006 and 2007 victors, Ford.

The European Rally Championship is an automobile rally competition held annually on the European continent and organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship has been organized since 1953 and have disputed in different European countries, alternating between rallies on asphalt and gravel. It was the first supranational rally championship that was organized in the world and therefore the oldest one. In 2012 it had 60 editions and in 2013 it was renewed with the merger with the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Andreas Mikkelsen Norwegian rally driver

Andreas Mikkelsen is a Norwegian rally driver. He is currently competing in the World Rally Championship-2 and the European Rally Championship for Toksport WRT. He previously drove for the factory teams of Volkswagen, Citroën and Hyundai in the World Rally Championship, finishing third in the drivers' standings in 2014, 2015 and 2016. His current co-driver is Elliott Edmondson.

The 2010 World Rally Championship was the 38th season of the FIA World Rally Championship. The season consisted of 13 rallies, beginning with Rally Sweden on 11 February and ended with Wales Rally GB on 14 November.

2009 Rally Ireland

The 2009 Rally Ireland, officially 2nd Rally Ireland, was the first round of the 2009 World Rally Championship season and was held between 30 January and 1 February 2009, it was also the opening round of the Junior World Rally Championship this season. Sligo was once again the rally base with the special stages being held on agricultural tarmac roads and major tarmac roads in the north west of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The 2011 European Rally Championship season was the 59th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season consisted of eleven rallies, beginning with Rally 1000 Miglia on 14 April 2011 and concluding with the Rallye International du Valais on 29 October 2011. Only drivers registered for the European championship were allowed to score points at the events, and they had to compete in a minimum of 8 rallies to be classified in the final championship standings. 28 drivers were registered for the season, the majority (15) were from Italy, four were from Poland, three from Bulgaria, two each from Slovenia and France and one each from Czech Republic and Switzerland.

The 2010 European Rally Championship season was the 58th season of the FIA European Rally Championship. The season had 11 rallies, beginning with Rally 1000 Miglia on 22 April. The championship was contested by 24 drivers from 6 countries. Luca Rossetti won 4 events and claimed his second European rally championship title.

The 2009 European Rally Championship season was the 57th season of the FIA European Rally Championship. The season had 11 rallies, of which Giandomenico Basso won 7 and thus claimed his second European rally championship title.

The 2007 European Rally Championship season was the 55th season of the FIA European Rally Championship. French driver Simon Jean-Joseph won his second European rally championship title despite not winning any of the 10 events.

The 2012 Intercontinental Rally Challenge was the seventh and final season of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The season again consisted of thirteen rounds and started on 23 February with the Rallye Açores. The season ended on 3 November, at the Cyprus Rally.

The 2012 European Rally Championship season was the 60th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season consisted of eleven rallies, beginning with the Internationale Jänner Rallye in Austria on 5 January 2012 and concluding with the Rallye International du Valais on 27 October 2012. After 8 rounds, Finnish driver Juho Hänninen secured the championship, winning four events.

The 2013 European Rally Championship season was the 61st season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the first following the merger between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. French broadcaster Eurosport, which previously organised the IRC, assumed the duties of organising the ERC.

The 2014 European Rally Championship season was the 62nd season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the second following the merger between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

The 2015 European Rally Championship season was the 63rd season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the third following the merge between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

2017 European Rally Championship

The 2017 European Rally Championship was the 65th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the fifth following the merge between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Kajetan Kajetanowicz was the reigning champion and went on to win the third straight ERC title.

The 2018 European Rally Championship was the 66th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the sixth following the merge between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Kajetan Kajetanowicz was the reigning champion but he didn't return to defend his title.

2019 European Rally Championship

The 2019 European Rally Championship was the 67th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the seventh following the merge between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Alexey Lukyanuk was the reigning champion and he returned to defend the title switching from a Ford Fiesta R5 to the Citroën C3 R5. On the final round at Rally Hungary, Chris Ingram became the first British driver in 52 years to win the title in a Skoda Fabia R5.

The 2020 European Rally Championship was the 68th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the eighth following the merge between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Chris Ingram was the reigning champion, but did not return to defend the title. Alexey Lukyanuk won the championship in Citroën C3 R5.
