The 2012 United States women's Olympic basketball team competed in the Games of the XXX Olympiad which were held in London, United Kingdom. The U.S. women's Olympic team won their seventh gold medal, and fifth consecutive, at the event. The United States defeated France in the gold medal final and bronze medalists Australia in the semifinal en route to their seventh victory at the event. [2]

The USA Basketball Men's National Team, commonly known as the United States men's national basketball team, is the basketball team representing the United States. It is the most successful team in international competition, winning medals in all nineteen Olympic tournaments it has entered, including sixteen golds. In the professional era, the team won the Olympic gold medal in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. Two of its gold medal-winning teams were inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in August 2010: the 1960 team, which featured six Hall of Famers, and the 1992 "Dream Team", featuring 14 Hall of Famers. The team is currently ranked first in the FIBA World Rankings.
Basketball contests at the 1968 Summer Olympics was the seventh appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, Mexico from October 13 to October 25, 1968. The United States defeated Yugoslavia to win their seventh consecutive gold medal in this sport, while the Soviet Union earned the bronze against Brazil.

Kara Marie Lawson is the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils women's basketball team. She is a former American professional women's basketball player in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and a basketball television analyst for ESPN and the Washington Wizards. Lawson primarily played as a shooting guard. She won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, a championship with the Sacramento Monarchs in the 2005 WNBA Finals, and coached the United States women's national 3x3 team to gold in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Lawson retired from the WNBA in 2015 to focus on her broadcasting career. She began her coaching career as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics of the NBA in 2019.

Billie Jean Moore was an American college basketball coach. She was the first head coach in women's college basketball history to lead two different schools to national championships. Moore coached the California State-Fullerton Titans from 1969 to 1977, winning the Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (CIAW) national title in her first year in 1970. She led the UCLA Bruins from 1977 to 1993 and won the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national title in 1978. Her overall college coaching record was 436–196. Moore was the head coach of the first United States women's national basketball team to compete in the Olympics. In 1999 she was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Cindy Jo Noble is an American basketball player who competed for the United States in the 1984 Summer Olympics. In the 1984 Summer Olympics the U.S. women's basketball team won a gold medal. Noble was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.

Susan Marie Rojcewicz is an American former basketball player who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. After culminating her college career at Southern Connecticut State University in 1975, Rojcewicz became a physical education instructor and assistant basketball coach at Penn State University. Rojcewicz was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.

The 2020 United States women's Olympic basketball team competed in the Games of the XXXII Olympiad which were held in Tokyo, Japan, and were delayed a year until 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. women's Olympic team won their ninth gold medal, and seventh consecutive, at the event. The United States defeated Japan in the gold medal final en route to their eighth victory at the event. The team was led by Dawn Staley, three-time gold medalist with Team USA as a player.
