The 2017–18 Brava Island Championships season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the island of Brava, Cape Verde. Its started on December 23,, 2017 and finished March 25, 2018, earlier than last season. The championship was governed by the Brava Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol da Brava, ARFB). [1] SC Morabeza won their 10th and recent title, also it was their next in eight years, [2] Morabeza will play in Group C.

The Brava Island League is a regional championship played in Brava Island, Cape Verde. The championships are organized by Brava Regional Football Association. The winner of the championship plays in the Cape Verdean football Championships of each season.

Association football team field sport

Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and dependencies, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field called a pitch with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by moving the ball beyond the goal line into the opposing goal.

Brava, Cape Verde island of the Cape Verde archipelago

Brava is an island in Cape Verde, in the Sotavento group. At 62.5 km2 (24.1 sq mi), it is the smallest inhabited island of the Cape Verde archipelago, but at the same time the greenest. First settled in the early 16th century, its population grew after Mount Fogo on neighbouring Fogo erupted in 1680. For more than a century, its main industry was whaling, but the island economy is now primarily agricultural.

Sporting Brava was yet again the defending team of the title. A total of 7 clubs participated in the competition. 157 goals were scored, fewer than the previous two seasons. All matches were played at Estádio Aquiles de Oliveira in Nova Sintra.

Estádio Aquiles de Oliveira

Estádio Aquiles de Olveira, also as Aquilo de Oliveira is a multi-use stadium in Nova Sintra on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, as the island size is small, it is the only sports venue on the island. It is used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Académica, Benfica and Sporting, clubs based from other parts of the municipality outside Nova Sintra plays at the stadium including SC Juventude da Furna and SC Morabeza. The stadium holds 1,000 people and its ground is artificial grass. The stadium is operated by the Brava Regional Football Association (ARFB).

Overview

Its scoring became moderate and almost normal to other championships, the national level. The positions were head to head, Morabeza and Sporting held it for some weeks until the last round when Morabeza clinched first place and won their next regional title. Morabeza finished with a club record of 31 points, fourth in Brava behind Sporting's three seasonal totals, 32 (in 2014), 34 (in 2016) and 36 (in 2017), also it is shared with Juventude's total made in 2013. Morabeza also made another record, 10 wins in a season, a club record sharing with Juventude's 2013 total and Sporting's 2014 and 2018 total as third in the region, it is behind Sporting's 11 (2016) and 12 (2017) wins.

What ended is Sporting Brava's unbeaten run which numbered 55 matches, the club's next loss in a few season was on February 24, a 3-1 loss to Juventude da Furna. Of any second tier competitions in the archipelago, it is behind Académica do Porto Novo's (of Santo Antão South) 56 made from March 5, 2011 to April 23, 2016. It is higher than the unbeaten runs made by Sporting Praia and CS Mindelense. Later at the nationals. [2] On the opposites, Académica finished seven, a lower position where they never ended since the 2012 expansion to seven clubs.

Académica do Porto Novo

Associação Académica do Porto Novo is a multi-sport club that plays in the Santo Antão Island League South Zone in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Porto Novo in the southeastern part of the island of Santo Antão. Sporting activities includes football and volleyball. Its current head is Osvaldinho Silva Lopes and its coach is Gunga. The nickname of the club like many other Académicas is Mica.

Sporting Clube da Praia

Sporting Clube da Praia, short form: Sporting Praia is a professional football club that plays in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago, one of the unrelegated clubs in the south of the island along with three of the city's four historically mightiest clubs including Académica, Boavista and CD Travadores. Along with Académcia, Boavista, Desportivo, Travadores and Vitória, it is one of several teams that share the same ground, Estádio da Várzea, which has a capacity of 8,000. Sporting has won six championships since independence and a few before independence. The first title was won in the summer of 1962 before independence. Sporting recently won the 2017 national title. Its current president is Carlos Daniel Caetano and its manager is Lito, who once played for Portuguese clubs as footballer.

CS Mindelense

Clube Sportivo Mindelense (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: KS Mindelensi, São Vicente Crioulo: KS Mindelense is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Interisland League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Mindelo in the island of São Vicente. Mindelense is the oldest club in Cape Verde. It is the team won the most cups before and after independence especially in the 1950s and the 1970s with nine titles before independence and eleven after independence. Their first participation in the national division before independence was unofficially in 1938 and officially in 1954, Mindelense first appeared after independence in 1980. Since 30 April 2017, they are one of three unrelegated clubs in the island along with Batuque and Derby. Its current chairman is Daniel de Jesus. The club's nickname is Leões Encarnados or the Incarnated Lions. A nickname that is used less often is the Red Devils or the Diablos Vermelhos.

Sporting Brava scored the most number of goals numbering 44, second was Morabeza with 22 and third was Benfica with 24, the last two were Corôa with six and Académica with only 9. On the opposites, Académica conceded the most with 42, second was Corôa with 32. The least was Morabeza with only eight goals. [2]

The 2017-18 Brava's opening tournament and cup competitions were held for the season. The championship had no breaks for the season.

Académica do Porto Novo won the 11th title and their 12th overall and finished with 34 points and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships in mid May and the first with changes as it will be divided into three groups, they played with Paulense, champion of the north of the island and Mindelense in which Académica Porto Novo lost to last season at the nationals along with the title.

The tournament was organized and governed by the São Nicolau Regional Football Association. Académica finished with a new regional record of 56 points, beating Sporting Praia's 55 of the previous season, overall of any regional championship competitions, it is third behind of the clubs of the island's North Zone, GD Varandinha with 63 and Scorpion Vermelho with 61. The tournament wasgoverned by the São Nicolau Regional Football Association. FC Belo Horizonte won their only title and finished with 35 points and competing in the 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championships. Belo Horizonte will qualify into the regional super cup later in the season, their only as champion

The championships were organized by the Boa Vista Regional Football Association. Sport Sal Rei Club won their 11th title, it was also the club's third straight, Sal Rei qualified into the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and placed in Group A.
