She only lost one set during the tournament, to Garbiñe Muguruza in the fourth round; she also saved two match points in that match, making her the eighth woman to win the Australian Open after saving match points. Osaka became the third player in the Open Era, after Monica Seles and Roger Federer, to win their first four major finals.

The 2021 Phillip Island Trophy is a tournament on the 2021 WTA Tour, one of six events in the 2021 Melbourne Summer Series. It was played on outdoor hard courts in Melbourne, Australia. It was organised as a lead-up tournament to the 2021 Australian Open, and was held at the same venue, due to other tournaments in Australia being cancelled as a result from the COVID-19 pandemic. This tournament took place simultaneously with the second week of the 2021 Australian Open.

Garbiñe Muguruza defeated Barbora Krejčíková in the final, 7–6(8–6), 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis event at the 2021 Dubai Tennis Championships. Muguruza dropped just one set during the tournament, to Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals.
Daria Kasatkina won the women's singles title at the 2021 St. Petersburg Ladies' Trophy, after Margarita Gasparyan retired from the final with the scoreline at 6–3, 2–1.

It was her first WTA 1000 title, and the final was a rematch of the Australian Open final, won by Sabalenka. Rybakina became the first Kazakhstani player to win a WTA 1000 singles title.
Petra Kvitová defeated Elena Rybakina in the final, 7–6(16–14), 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Miami Open. It was Kvitová's first WTA 1000 title since the 2018 Madrid Open, and her 30th career title overall; she also became the first Czech player to win the title. Rybakina was attempting to complete the Sunshine Double, having already won the title at Indian Wells.
