The Stampeders managed to qualify for the playoffs for an 18th straight season after the team defeated the BC Lions in week 20 and the Saskatchewan Roughriders lost in the same week. This was the first time Calgary had a losing regular season record since the 2007 season.

The team attempted to win the ninth Grey Cup championship in franchise history, but lost the West Semi-Final to the BC Lions.

Offseason

CFL Global Draft

The 2023 CFL Global Draft took place on May 2, 2023. [2] [3] The Stampeders had the sixth selection in each round. [4]

CFL National Draft

The 2023 CFL Draft took place on May 2, 2023. [3] The Stampeders had eight selections in the eight-round draft after forfeiting their second round pick after selecting T. J. Rayam in the 2022 Supplemental Draft and trading their seventh-round pick to the Roughriders in exchange for James Smith. [5] [6] However, the team swapped their first-round pick and acquired additional third-round picks and sixth-round picks after trading Bo Levi Mitchell to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. [7]

The Stampeders had the sixth selection in each of the eight rounds of the draft after losing the West Semi-Final and finishing third in the 2022 league standings, not including traded picks. [8]

The 1977 Kansas City Chiefs season was the franchise's 8th season in the National Football League, the 15th as the Kansas City Chiefs, and the 18th overall. This season was the worst in franchise history until the 2008 season, with the Chiefs winning only two of fourteen games. After an 0–5 start, Head coach Paul Wiggin was fired following a 44–7 loss to Cleveland in week 7. Tom Bettis took over as interim head coach for the rest of the season. The team endured a six-game losing streak to conclude the season at 2–12.

2007 Calgary Stampeders season Canadian football team season

The 2007 Calgary Stampeders season was the 50th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 69th overall. After promising second-place finishes in the West Division in 2005 (11–7) and 2006 (10–8) they finished third in the West Division in 2007, with a disappointing 7–10–1 record, their first losing record in three seasons. They were defeated in the Western Semi-Final 26–24 by the eventual Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders. The season was the last in which the team recorded more than two consecutive losses in the regular season in 10 years, recording three consecutive losses to close out the 2017 Calgary Stampeders season.

The 1975 Kansas City Chiefs season was the franchise's 6th season in the National Football League, the 13th as the Kansas City Chiefs, and the 16th overall, it ended with a second consecutive 5–9 record and the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the 4th straight year. San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Paul Wiggin was named the second head coach in franchise history on January 23. A former Pro Bowl defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, Wiggin inherited the unenviable task of rebuilding a squad whose pool of talent had been largely depleted due to age and a number of ill-fated trades that had left the club devoid of first-round draft choices in 1973 and 1975. After an 0–3 start to the season, Wiggin directed the Chiefs to three straight wins, beginning with a convincing 42–10 victory against the Raiders on October 12. The highlight of the season was a 34–31 upset win at Dallas on Monday Night Football. The club could not maintain the early success. Owning a 5–5 record heading into the homestretch of the season, injuries to a number of key players crippled the team. The team dropped its final four contests of the year to finish at 5–9 for the second consecutive season. The regular season finale at Oakland marked the final games in the Hall of Fame careers of Len Dawson and Buck Buchanan.

The 1980 Kansas City Chiefs season was the franchise's 11th season in the National Football League and 21st overall. They improved from 1979 from a 7–9 to an 8–8 record, the most wins for the franchise since an 8–6 season in 1972, but missed the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season.

The 1974 San Diego Chargers season was the franchise's fifth season in the National Football League (NFL), and its 15th overall. The team improved on their 2–11–1 record in 1973 and finished 5–9. It was Tommy Prothro's first season as the team's head coach.
