The 2023 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 65th season for the team in the Canadian Football League. It was the club's 114th year overall, and its 107th season of play. The Roughriders failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season after they lost their final game of the year to the Toronto Argonauts. Chad Owens Sr. is a former professional Canadian football wide receiver and kick returner. He was most recently a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Owens played college football at Hawaii. He spent six seasons playing for the Toronto Argonauts, and has also been a member of the Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Kevin Glenn, Jr. is a former American professional Canadian football quarterback. He was originally signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) as an undrafted free agent in 2001. He played college football for the Illinois State Redbirds and high school football at Detroit St. Martin de Porres. Glenn is a journeyman quarterback who is the only player to ever have had his rights held by every team in the CFL.
Steven Jyles is a former professional Canadian football quarterback. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2006. He played college football for Louisiana–Monroe. Jyles was also a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Toronto Argonauts, and BC Lions.

Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton hosted the 98th Grey Cup on November 28 when the Montreal Alouettes became the first team to repeat as Grey Cup Champions in 13 years, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 21–18. The league announced on its Twitter page on January 29, 2010 that the season would start on July 1, 2010. As of 2021 this is the most recent CFL regular season to start in July.

Patrick Lavoie is a Canadian football fullback who is a free agent. He most recently played for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played in parts of three seasons for the Montreal Alouettes and for four years with the Ottawa Redblacks where he won his first Grey Cup championship in 2016. He has also played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He played CIS football for the Laval Rouge et Or and won Vanier Cup championships in 2008 and 2010.
Mario Alford is an American professional football wide receiver for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers, earning first-team All-American honors in 2014.

The Roughriders improved upon their 5–13 record from 2016 and clinched a playoff spot with a win over the Calgary Stampeders on October 20, 2017. They finished in fourth place in the West Division and crossed over to the East Division playoffs for the third time in franchise history. They won their first ever East Semi-Final game by defeating the Ottawa Redblacks, but lost the following week to the Toronto Argonauts 25–21 in the last minute of the game.
