The 2023 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 65th season for the team in the Canadian Football League. It was the club's 114th year overall, and its 107th season of play. The Roughriders failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season after they lost their final game of the year to the Toronto Argonauts. [1] The 2023 CFL season was the fourth season under head coach Craig Dickenson and general manager Jeremy O'Day. [2]

CFL National Draft

The 2023 CFL Draft took place on May 2, 2023. [5] The Roughriders had eight selections in the eight-round draft, with an additional seventh-round pick and the loss of a fifth-round pick. [6] [7] The team had the third selection in each round of the draft after finishing third-last in the 2022 league standings, not including traded picks. [8]

Calgary finished ahead of Saskatchewan in the standings because they went 2-1 in their 3-game head-to-head series.

Schedule

The Roughriders played in a neutral site game in Halifax, against the Toronto Argonauts, who were the home team for their Week 8 match-up. [10] [11] This was the second consecutive year that the two teams meet in Nova Scotia and the first repeat matchup in the Touchdown Atlantic series.

Chad Owens Sr. is a former professional Canadian football wide receiver and kick returner. He was most recently a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for Louisiana–Monroe. Jyles was also a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Toronto Argonauts, and BC Lions.

The 2010 CFL season is the 57th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it is the 53rd Canadian Football League season. Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton hosted the 98th Grey Cup on November 28 when the Montreal Alouettes became the first team to repeat as Grey Cup Champions in 13 years, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 21–18. The league announced on its Twitter page on January 29, 2010 that the season would start on July 1, 2010. As of 2021 this is the most recent CFL regular season to start in July.

They finished in fourth place in the West Division and crossed over to the East Division playoffs for the third time in franchise history. They won their first ever East Semi-Final game by defeating the Ottawa Redblacks, but lost the following week to the Toronto Argonauts 25–21 in the last minute of the game.

The club hosted a playoff game for the first time since 2014, having finished in second place in the East Division. However, they lost the game to the Edmonton Eskimos by a score of 37–29.

The Roughriders qualified for the playoffs for the third consecutive year and hosted a playoff game for the second consecutive year. They finished 13–5 in the regular season and finished first place in the West Division for only the second time since 1976 and the first time winning the West Division crown since 2009. The 2019 West Final was the first time that the game was held at the new Mosaic Stadium and the second time a playoff game was held at the venue, the first coming during the previous season in 2018.

This would have been the first full season with Michael Clemons as general manager following his appointment mid-way through the 2019 season. The 2022 Toronto Argonauts season was the 64th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 149th year of existence. The Argonauts won the 109th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by a score of 24–23. This was the 18th time the Argonauts have won the championship, a league record. The Argonauts held their training camp on the campus of the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario.

The Blue Bombers entered the season as the two-time defending Grey Cup champions after winning both the 107th and 108th Grey Cup games. The team qualified for the playoffs following their 12th game of the season after defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Labour Day Classic on September 4, 2022. The team then clinched first place in the division in week 18 following their victory over the Edmonton Elks on October 8, 2022. The Blue Bombers reached the 109th Grey Cup, but were not able to perform the three-peat and lost to the Toronto Argonauts 24–23.
