The 2023 season saw Southern Vipers compete in the 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Twenty20 Charlotte Edwards Cup. The side won both competitions, completing the domestic double: in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the side finished second in the group before defeating North West Thunder in the play-off and The Blaze in the final, whilst in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy the side won the initial group stage before again defeating The Blaze in the final. The side was captained by Georgia Adams and coached by Charlotte Edwards. [5] They played four home matches at the Rose Bowl, three at the County Ground, Hove, two at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, and one apiece at Newclose County Cricket Ground and Falkland Cricket Club. [6] [7]
On 4 November 2022, it was announced that Paige Scholfield and Tara Norris had left the side, joining South East Stars and North West Thunder respectively. [8] On 9 December 2022, Carla Rudd announced her retirement from all forms of cricket. [9] On 21 April 2023, the side announced their squad for the season, confirming the departures of Ella Chandler, Ariana Dowse and Gemma Lane. [10] On 4 June 2023, it was announced that Chloe Hill had joined South East Stars on loan for June and July. [11] After the end of the Charlotte Edwards Cup on 11 June 2023, Anya Shrubsole announced her retirement from regional cricket. [12] On 31 August 2023, Chloe Hill's loan to South East Stars was renewed for the remainder of the season. [13]
On 2 November 2022, it was announced that Linsey Smith had joined the side from Northern Diamonds, and had signed a professional contract. Smith had previously played for Vipers during the Women's Cricket Super League in 2016 and 2017. [14] On 7 November 2022, it was announced that the side had signed Chloe Hill (who had previously been signed on loan in 2022) and Rhianna Southby, from Central Sparks and South East Stars respectively. [15] On 21 April 2023, the side announced their squad for the season, confirming the addition of Sophie Mitchelmore. [10] On 5 May 2023, it was confirmed that Nicole Faltum had joined the side as an overseas player. [16] On 1 July 2023, Ava Lee, Abi Norgrove and Megan Sturge were all named in a matchday squad for the first time. [17] On 6 July 2023, the side announced the signing of Maitlan Brown as an overseas player, for four Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy matches. [18]
On 7 November 2022, it was announced that Emily Windsor, Ella McCaughan, Georgia Elwiss and Anya Shrubsole had signed their first professional contracts with the side. [15] On 11 April 2023, Southern Vipers announced the awarding of five further professional contracts, each six months in length, to Alice Monaghan, Charlotte Taylor, Nancy Harman, Chloe Hill and Rhianna Southby. The Southern Vipers were a women's cricket team that represented the South of England. The Vipers wore an orange and black kit and primarily played their home matches at the Rose Bowl and the County Ground, Hove.
The 2020 season saw Southern Vipers compete in the new 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy following reforms to the structure of women's domestic cricket in England. The side topped the South Group of the competition, winning all six of their matches, therefore progressing to the final, where they played Northern Diamonds. The Vipers went on to become the inaugural winners of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy as they won by 38 runs, with bowler Charlotte Taylor taking 6/34. Taylor was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with 15 wickets, whilst Vipers captain Georgia Adams was the leading run-scorer, with 500 runs.
The 2021 season saw Southern Vipers compete in the 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, of which they were defending champions, and the new Twenty20 competition, the Charlotte Edwards Cup. The side topped the group stage of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, winning six of their seven matches and therefore progressing straight to the final. In the final they faced Northern Diamonds, who made 183 batting first. In response, Vipers were reduced to 109/7, but an unbroken partnership of 78 between Emily Windsor and Tara Norris ensured the side defended their title, winning by 3 wickets with 2 balls to spare.
The 2022 season was Central Sparks' third season, in which they competed in the 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Twenty20 Charlotte Edwards Cup. In the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the side finished second in Group A, winning four of their six matches and progressing to the semi-final as the best second-placed team. They beat South East Stars by 2 wickets in the semi-final, but lost to Southern Vipers by 6 wickets in the final. Central Sparks wicket-keeper batter Amy Jones was named as Player of the Year in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, and was the tournament's leading run-scorer with 289 runs in 8 matches. The side finished fifth in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, winning two of their six matches.
The 2022 season was Lightning's third season, in which they competed in the 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Twenty20 Charlotte Edwards Cup. In the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the side finished bottom of Group B, winning one of their six matches. The side finished sixth in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, winning two of their six matches.
The 2022 season saw Southern Vipers compete in the 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, of which they were defending champions, and the Twenty20 Charlotte Edwards Cup.
