Fantasia International Film Festival is a genre film festival that has been based mainly in Montreal since its founding in 1996. It focuses on niche, low budget movies in various genres, from horror to sci-fi. Regularly held in July/August, by 2016 its annual audience had already surpassed 100,000 viewers and outgrown even the Montreal World Film Festival.

The 28th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 22 February to 5 March 1978. Director Wolf Donner successfully managed to shift the festival's date from June to February, a change which has remained ever since. This was the first year the festival was held in February. Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, previously known as Kowloon Walled City, is a 2024 Hong Kong neo-noir martial arts crime action film directed by Soi Cheang, and starring Louis Koo, Sammo Hung, Richie Jen, Raymond Lam, Terrance Lau, Kenny Wong, Philip Ng, Tony Wu and German Cheung. The film was based on the novel City of Darkness by Yuyi and the manhua of the same name by Andy Seto.

She established the festival in 2014 with Stacy Pippi Hammon, and serves as its Director of Programming. Honeycutt and Hammon had previously run the Viscera Film Festival alongside Shannon Lark. As a journalist, Honeycutt has written for such magazines as Fangoria and Famous Monsters of Filmland.

Ghost Cat Anzu is a 2024 animated film directed by Yōko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita and produced by Shin-Ei Animation and Miyu Productions. Based on the manga of the same name by Takashi Imashiro, the film stars Mirai Moriyama as Anzu, the titular ghost cat, and Noa Gotō as a young girl named Karin. The film opened in Japan in July 2024.
Ababooned is a Canadian comedy-drama film, directed by André Forcier and released in 2024. Set in the Faubourg à m'lasse district of Montreal, Quebec, in the 1950s, the film centres on a conflict between the Roman Catholic Church and a young team of baseball players.
Sunburnt Unicorn is a Canadian animated feature film, directed by Nick Johnson and released in 2024. The film centres on Frankie, a young boy who is stranded in the desert after a car accident, and must travel through the strange and increasingly hallucinatory environment to try to find his father.
