AR Murugadoss Indian films Director

Murugadoss Arunasalam, commonly known as A.R. Murugadoss, is an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter who predominantly works in the Tamil film industry. He is best known for directing action films mainly on social issues. In addition, he has worked in Telugu films and Hindi films. Murugadoss won the Filmfare Award for Best Director for his 2014 Tamil action drama Kaththi.

<i>Aadukalam</i> 2011 film by Vetrimaaran

Aadukalam (transl. Playground) is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language sports action drama film directed by Vetrimaran, who also wrote the screenplay and dialogues with Vikram Sugumaran. Produced by Five Star Kathiresan and distributed by Sun Pictures, the film stars Dhanush and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles, the latter in her film debut, with Kishore, V. I. S. Jayapalan, Naren, and Murugadoss play supporting roles. G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the film score and soundtrack, whilst Velraj and Kishore Te. handled the cinematography and editing. The film was released on 14 January 2011 to positive critical feedback. The film won six awards at the 58th National Film Awards, including Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor. The film was also felicitated with five awards in 59th Filmfare Awards South – Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Music Director and Best Cinematography. Based on an online poll by The Times of India, Vetrimaran was chosen as the best director for Aadukalam.

The Vijay Awards are presented by the Tamil television channel STAR Vijay to honour excellence in Tamil cinema. It has been given annually since 2006, with the latest—the 10th edition—of the award-giving ceremony having been held in May 2018. The awards are decided by a jury, consisting of noted film-makers, critics and technicians, while winners in a separate category named "Favourite awards" are chosen by public voting. The awards have been sponsored by Reliance Mobile, Univercell and Close Up. Owing to controversies about indulging personal wishes and a decrease in public interest, it was cancelled for two years.

The Vijay Award for Best Actor is given by STAR Vijay as part of its annual Vijay Awards ceremony for Tamil (Kollywood) films. It was given from the second ceremony onwards. Dhanush and Vikram are the most award winners with 2 awards each.

The Edison Awards is an annual awards ceremony since 2009 for people in the Tamil film industry. It is named after the inventor of cinema, Thomas Alva Edison. It reaches seven countries with Tamil language television, with the main broadcaster Astro in Malaysia.

Sivakarthikeyan Indian actor and film producer

Sivakarthikeyan, also referred to as SK, is an Indian actor, playback singer, film producer, lyricist, and television presenter who works predominantly in Tamil cinema. He began his career in television as a stand-up comedian and reality show personality on Star Vijay. In 2012, he featured in a supporting role in the Dhanush starred film 3. In 2013, Sivakarthikeyan appeared in three films: Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, Ethir Neechal and Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam. His performances in the year won him the 2013 Vijay Award for Entertainer of the Year. He has won a Tamil Nadu State Film Award, four Edison Awards, three SIIMA Awards and three Vijay Awards. He produces Tamil films under his production company, Sivakarthikeyan Productions.

The 7th Vijay Awards ceremony honoring the best of the Tamil film industry in 2012 was held on 11 May 2013 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. It was hosted by Gopinath and R. Madhavan.
