The high courts of India are the highest courts of appellate jurisdiction in each state and union territory of India. However,a high court exercises its original civil and criminal jurisdiction only if the subordinate courts are not authorized by law to try such matters for lack of peculiar or territorial jurisdiction. High courts may also enjoy original jurisdiction in certain matters,if so designated,especially by the constitution,a state law or union law.
The High Court of Karnataka is the High Court of the Indian state of Karnataka and thus its highest judicial authority. The court's principal bench is located in Bengaluru,the capital city of Karnataka,with additional benches in Hubballi-Dharwada and Kalaburagi. It was previously called the High Court of Mysore. Baharul Islam was an Indian politician and judge of the Supreme Court of India. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha,the upper house of the Parliament of India as a member of the Indian National Congress. In 1972 he resigned from the Rajya Sabha to become a judge in the Gauhati High Court after retiring from the role of chief justice of the Gauhati High Court. He was later recalled and made a Judge of the Supreme court. In that position he passed a judgement absolving the then-Chief Minister of Bihar Jagannath Mishra in the urban cooperative bank scandal. He later resigned from the Supreme court to contest elections as a Congress party candidate and was elected back to the Rajya Sabha.
