Abby Dent (born March 4, 2002) is a national team rower from Canada. Dent became a Pan American Games champion when she won gold in the women's eight at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago and also won a silver medal at the games in the coxless pair with Olivia McMurray. [3] [4]
Dent was born March 4, 2002, to Leanne and Carlton Dent and grew up in Kenora. She attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, where she competed for the school's rowing team. There, she was named the junior women's athlete of the year (2017) and senior women's athlete of the year (2018).
While in high school, Dent also competed with the Kenora Rowing Club and the Manitoba Rowing Club. In 2017, she competed for Team Manitoba in the 2017 Canada Summer Games, winning bronze in the women's quad sculls. [5] The next year, she won gold in both the junior women's single scull and in the women's U19 double at the 2018 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. [6]
After graduating high school, Dent attended the University of Michigan, where she majored in general studies through the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. She was twice named an Academic All-Big Ten (2022, 2023). [7]
While attending the University of Michigan, Dent competed with the university's rowing team. Her freshman year, she helped the team secure fourth place at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships. [6] Her junior year, she was a member of the crew named Big Ten Boat of the Week for the week of April 11. The following month, she won gold and helped the team win the Big Ten Championship. She also placed ninth overall that year at the NCAA Championships. In 2023, she was named Big Ten Athlete of the Year and was on the All-Big Ten first team. [7]
Dent competed on behalf of Canada at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships in Tokyo, Japan, where she finished sixth overall in the single sculls. [6] [7] [8]
In 2021 and 2022, Dent was included on Team Canada's U-23 World Championship roster for double sculls and the 8+. [7] In 2021, she finished twelfth in the double [9] and seventh in the 8+. [8]
At the 2023 U23 World Championships, she competed in the Women's Four event, where she finished 5th. [8] She also competed at the 2023 World Cup III regatta, finishing 10th in the Women's Four. [10]
In September 2023, Dent was named to the Canadian Pan American Games Team, [11] [12] in the Women's Eight, Women's Pair and Mixed Eight events. She placed 4th in the Mixed Eight, won a Silver Medal in the Women's Pair, and became the first-ever Pan American Games champion in the Women's Eight (2023 was the first time the Women's Eight had been contested at the Pan American Games). Caryn Davies is an American rower. She is the winner of the 2023 Thomas Keller Medal, the most prestigious international award in the sport of rowing, and the only American to have ever won this award. She won gold medals as the stroke seat of the U.S. women's eight at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2008 Summer Olympics. In April 2015 Davies stroked Oxford University to victory in the first ever women's Oxford/Cambridge boat race held on the same stretch of the river Thames in London where the men's Oxford/Cambridge race has been held since 1829. She was the most highly decorated Olympian to take part in either [men's or women's] race. In 2012 Davies was ranked number 4 in the world by the International Rowing Federation. At the 2004 Olympic Games she won a silver medal in the women's eight. Davies has won more Olympic medals than any other U.S. oarswoman. The 2008 U.S. women's eight, of which she was a part, was named FISA crew of the year. Davies is from Ithaca, New York, where she graduated from Ithaca High School, and rowed with the Cascadilla Boat Club. Davies was on the Radcliffe College (Harvard) Crew Team and was a member on Radcliffe's 2003 NCAA champion Varsity 8, and overall team champion. In 2013, she was a visiting student at Pembroke College, Oxford, where she stroked the college men's eight to a victory in both Torpids and the Oxford University Summer Eights races. In 2013–14 Davies took up Polynesian outrigger canoeing in Hawaii, winning the State novice championship and placing 4th in the long-distance race na-wahine-o-ke-kai with her team from the Outrigger Canoe Club. In 2013, she was inducted into the New York Athletic Club Hall of Fame and in 2022 into the Harvard University Athletics Hall of Fame.
Janine Stephens is a former Canadian rower from Winnipeg on the Canadian National team. Stephens won the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as part of the women's eights rowing team. She also has two World Championship silver medals to her credit, also in the women's eights.

Olympia Aldersey is an Australian rower. She is an Australian national champion, a dual Olympian and was a 2019 World Champion in the coxless four. In 2014 she set a world's fastest ever time (6:37.31) in a women's double scull over 2000m, a record which has stood since. She rowed in the Australian women's eight at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Robert Whitla Richards was a Canadian rower who competed in the 1930 British Empire Games, where he won a gold medal alongside his cousin Elswood Bole. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Richards won the Canadian national championships in the double sculls six times between 1928 and 1950, but missed qualifying for the Summer Olympics in 1932. He also had a term as president of his Winnipeg Rowing Club. By career he was a stockbroker and he served in the Canadian Army during World War II. He was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in 1988.
Carling Zeeman is a Canadian rower. She competed at several World cups, international events, along with the 2015 Pan American Games. Zeeman is a former world championships silver medallist in the women's quadruple sculls event. More recently she won gold in the women's single sculls at World Rowing Cup I regatta in Varese, Italy, and a silver at the 2017 World Rowing Cup 3 regatta in Lucerne Switzerland.
Brooke Francis is a New Zealand rower. She has twice won the world championship in the double scull alongside Olivia Loe, is the incumbent world champion, and won a silver medal in this boat class at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with her new rowing partner, Hannah Osborne. As of 2021, she has won ten premier national rowing championships.

Kirstyn Moana Goodger is a New Zealand rower. Originally from Auckland and now based in Cambridge, she took up rowing in 2005. She has won one international medal for New Zealand – a silver at the 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships in France. From 2011 to 2014, she rowed for the Washington Huskies while studying oceanography at the University of Washington. Upon her return to New Zealand, she joined the Wairau Rowing Club and is one of the premier rowers who belongs to the Central Rowing Performance Centre. Goodger has been an elite rower for the national squad since 2017. She has represented her country at several World Rowing Cups, the 2017 and the 2019 World Rowing Championships. At the latter regatta, she managed to qualify the women's quad scull boat category for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She was chosen as one of ten rowers for the New Zealand women's eight and travelled to the Games with the team. The woman's eight squad would come away with a silver medal in the eight at the 2020 games. Goodger has won four premier national titles in the women's eight. She worked as a scientist and engineer for consultancy Beca in their ports and coastal team.
Olivia McMurray is a national team rower from Canada. McMurray became a Pan American Games champion when she won gold in women's eight at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago. She also won a silver medal at the same games in the coxless pair with Abigail Dent. She placed 4th in the Mixed Eight final.
