Koshi Province is the easternmost province of Nepal. It is surrounded by Tibet region of China to the north, the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal to the east and Bihar to the south and Nepal's Bagmati and Madhesh provinces to the west.
Koshi occupies most of the area of what was previously Eastern Development Region. EDR had 3 zones and 16 districts. The districts were further subdivided into municipalities and village development committees.
Koshi Province is divided into 14 districts and districts are subdivided into municipalities.

Biratnagar High Court (Nepali : बिराटनगर उच्च अदालत) is the high court of Koshi Province. The high court established according to the new constitution of Nepal. Article 139 of the constitution says “there shall be a High Court in each state”. According to article 300 (3): “The High Courts set forth in Article 139 shall be established no later than one year after the date of commencement of this Constitution. The Appellate Courts existing at the time of commencement of this Constitution shall be dissolved after the establishment of such courts”. [2] The government of Nepal transformed the existing appellate court in Biratnagar on 14 September 2016. As per the government decision, there will be extended benches in Illam, Dhankuta and Okhaldhunga under the high court in Biratnagar. [3]
Tej Bahadur KC is the current chief judge of Biratnagar High Court. [4]
Clause 148, 149, 150 and 151 of Constitution of Nepal, 2015 defines District Courts, appointment, qualification, terms and remuneration of chief justices. [5] [6]
There are 14 district courts in Koshi Province. Each district has one District court.

District Coordination Committee is the legislative body at district level. The Head of a district development committee is elected by the district assembly. The DCC acts as an executive to the district Assembly. The DCC coordinates with the Provincial Assembly to establish coordination between the Provincial Assembly and rural municipalities and municipalities and to settle disputes, if any, of political nature. It also maintains coordination between the provincial and Federal government and among the local bodies in the district. It also monitors development within the district. [23]
The head of the provincial government is the Chief Minister, who is the parliamentary party leader of the party with the majority or the highest number of seats in the assembly. The assembly can force the resignation of the chief minister with a vote of no confidence.

Biratnagar is a metropolitan city in Nepal, which serves as the capital of Koshi Province. With a Metropolitan Urban Agglomeration population of 244,750 as per the 2021 census, it is the largest city and fastest growing city in the province and also the headquarters of Morang district. As per the preliminary report of 2022 Nepal census, Biratnagar Metropolitan has an estimated city population of 243,927 excluding the suburban areas which are now very well connected to the old town. It is the administrative center of the Greater Birat Development Area which incorporates the cities of Biratnagar and its suburbs and towns of-Itahari-Gothgau-Biratchowk-Dharan primarily located on the Koshi Highway in Eastern Nepal, with an estimated total urban agglomerated population of 804,300 people in 159,332 households including the town of Ithari. Biratnagar is located 399 km (248 mi) east of the capital, Kathmandu, and 6 km (3.7 mi) north of the bordering town of Jogbani in the Indian state of Bihar. It is one of the major entry point in Nepal for Businessmen as well as Tourists who come to visit Nepal for various purposes.
Bhojpur is one of the two urban municipalities of Bhojpur District of Province No. 1 of Nepal.
Taplejung District is one of 77 districts of Nepal and one of the 14 districts of Koshi Province. It is located deep in the Himalayas in Eastern Nepal with བོད to the north across the Himalayas. Taplejung is the third largest district of Nepal.
Koshi Province is the autonomous easternmost province adopted by the Constitution of Nepal on 20 September 2015. The province is rich in natural resources, tourist attractions, recreational activities, and natural beauty. The province covers an area of 25,905 km2 (10,002 sq mi), about 17.5% of the country's total area. With the industrial city of Biratnagar as its capital, the province includes major eastern towns of Birtamod, Sundar Haraincha, Damak, Dharan, Itahari, Triyuga Municipality and Mechinagar, and the Mount Everest, Kangchenjunga and Ama Dablam. Koshi River, the largest river of the nation, forms the province's western boundary. Under the First-past-the-post voting system issued by the Constituency Delimitation Commission, Nepal, the province hosts 28 parliamentary seats and 56 provincial assembly seats.
Bagmati Province is one of the seven provinces of Nepal established by the constitution of Nepal. Bagmati is Nepal's second-most populous province and fifth largest province by area. It is bordered by Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north, Gandaki Province to the west, Koshi Province to the east, Madhesh Province and the Indian state of Bihar to the south. With Hetauda as its provincial headquarters, the province is also the home to the country's capital Kathmandu, is mostly hilly and mountainous, and hosts mountain peaks including Gaurishankar, Langtang, Jugal, and Ganesh.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning is the governmental body of Koshi Province, Nepal, it is responsible for the analysis of the economic situation of the province and the formulation, implementation and regulation of economic policies, the allocation of financial resources at the provincial level, the formulation, implementation and regulation of policies and laws related to financial management and provincial revenue.
District administration makes up the third level of government division in Nepal. The provision for a District Assembly, which acts as the legislature at the district-level, is mentioned in Part 17 of the Constitution of Nepal. The 77 districts of Nepal each have their own district assemblies which in turn elect their own District Coordination Committees, which serves as the executive at the district-level. In addition to this each district also has a District Administration Office which oversees the general administration of each district.
Sundar Haraicha is a municipality in Morang District of Koshi Province in Nepal. It is centered around Biratchowk town which is the gateway to Biratnagar. It borders Itahari Sub- Metropolitan city to the west, Dharan Sub- Metropolitan city to the Northwest and Belbari municipality to the east and is connected by Mahendra Highway. It is one of the fastest growing cities in eastern Nepal and the second largest city of Morang district after Biratnagar, with 121,305 inhabitants living in 26,677 households. It consists of the town centres of Biratchowk and Gothgaun which are parts of the Greater Birat Development Area which incorporates the cities of Biratnagar-Itahari-Gothgau-Biratchowk-Dharan primarily located on the Koshi Highway in Eastern Nepal, with an estimated total urban agglomerated population of 804,300 people living in 159,332 households.
The Koshi Provincial Assembly also known as the Koshi Pradesh Sabha, is the unicameral legislature of Koshi Province, one of the seven provinces in Nepal. The assembly is seated at the provincial capital at Biratnagar in Morang District at the District Coordination Committee Office. The assembly has 93 members of whom 56 are elected through first-past-the-post voting and 37 are elected through proportional representation. The term of the assembly is 5 years unless dissolved earlier.

Sikkim and part of North Bengal of India forms ethno-linguistic relation with Nepal. Geography of Koshi Province in eastern Nepal is very diverse, of highest peaks of Himalayas in northern extremes to terai region to south. It lies between 86 degree 1 minute and 88 degree 3 minutes east longitude and 28 degree 2 minutes and 26 degree 3 minutes north longitude. Biratnagar, the industrial capital of Nepal, is the temporary capital of this province.
Sudurpashchim Pradesh is a province of Nepal located in westernmost part of Nepal. It is surrounded by Tibet of China in Northwest, Uttrakhand of India in West, Uttar Pradesh of India in South, Karnali Province in East and North. Lumbini Province touches it in South. Godawari is the capital city of the province.
The 2023 Speaker of the Koshi Provincial Assembly election was held on January 12, 2023 to elect the speaker of the Koshi Provincial Assembly. However nominations have been fixed for the election from 3pm to 5pm and CPN, politician Baburam Gautam who had been nominated in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, was the only candidate to file the nomination for the post.

Jabegu had previously served as the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development in the Government of Koshi Province on three separate occasions from, 2 August 2023 to 8 September 2023, 3 November 2023 to 9 May 2024.
