Almartha is an unincorporated community in northern Ozark County, Missouri, United States. [2] It is located approximately thirteen miles north of Gainesville and four miles southeast of Wasola on Route 95. The village is located in a valley on a tributary of Spring Creek. [1] Several homes are located there. The old mill and current fish hatchery of Rockbridge lies downstream on Spring Creek, about six miles to the east. [3]
A post office called Almartha was established in 1855, and remained in operation until 1969. Actually, the Post Office continued to operate until about 1982–83. Wasola’s post office then took over for the closed office in Almartha changing its old zip code to the now current zip of 65773. The traditional phone line prefix both on party line and private line remains area code 417, then prefix of 265. Almartha, along with the communities of Wasola, Souder, and Rockbridge, have a separate prefix than the county seat, which is located approximately 14 miles south with the prefix of 679. Although Ozark County is a very rural area, the communities of Wasola, Almartha, Souder, and Rockbridge all share their own zip code of 65773 and a phone line prefix of 265.This separates those communities from the rest of Ozark and Douglas counties, while the majority of those communities fall within the school district to the north, which is Douglas County with the town of Ava as the county seat. The community was named from the first names of early settlers Albert and Martha McSpadden. [5]

It is located 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Gainesville, on Route 95 at the Little North Fork of the White River on the edge of the Mark Twain National Forest between Wasola to the northeast and Longrun to the southwest. Souder is an unincorporated community on Spring Creek in northern Ozark County, Missouri, United States. It is thirteen miles north of Gainesville and is located on county road 142, north of Route 95.
Rockbridge is an unincorporated community in northern Ozark County, Missouri, United States. It is the site of an old mill on spring-fed Spring Creek, a tributary of Bryant Creek, which still houses the post office. It lies twelve miles north of Gainesville on Missouri Route N, approximately one-half miles north of Route 95. The narrow valley floor is only about 650 feet (200 m) wide and at an elevation of 770 feet (230 m) and the Ozark ridges on either side are 200 to 250 feet higher.

The old townsite is located along Route 76 on Tarbutton Creek, about 1.5 miles east of Bryant Creek at an elevation of 920 feet. The Brushyknob church and cemetery is on a ridge flat about 3500 feet to the south-southeast and some 200 feet higher in elevation. The historic Brushyknob school is 850 feet south of the church.
Smallett is an unincorporated community in southern Douglas County, Missouri, United States. It is located approximately nine miles south of Ava and is located on Missouri Supplemental Route A. It previously had its own post office from 1888-1967 with ZIP code 65750, but mail is now served by the post office in Ava. Some say Smallett was named for its first postmaster, James Small, while others believe the name honors another early settler.

Rippee Creek is a stream in southern Douglas County, Missouri. The stream starts in a hillside valley just east of Squires at an elevation just above 1200 feet and flows eastward past the Girdner community on Missouri Route P and on to its confluence with Bryant Creek at an elevation of 781 feet within the Rippee State Wildlife Management Area.
