Adult males measure 40–60 mm (1.6–2.4 in) and adult females 40–63 mm (1.6–2.5 in) in snout–vent length. The body is robust with well-developed arms and legs. The snout is strongly truncated in dorsal profile. No tympanum is present. The fingers are long with globular tips and lack webbing. The toes are long, thin, and fringed. Dorsal surfaces and the limbs are light brown with golden tints. Skin on the flanks and dorsal surface is granular. The venter and throat are whitish. The iris is black and has bronze reticulations. [2]
Alsodes valdiviensis is known from temperate Nothofagus and Fitzroya forests and bogs at 1,100 m (3,600 ft) above sea level. [1] [2] Adult males have been found under logs at the border of the forest in spring and summer. [2] Breeding takes place in cold fast-moving streams. Threats to it are unknown, and it is not known from any protected area. [1]

It is endemic to Chile and only known from its type locality, Río Lircay, in Alto de Vilches, Talca Province, on the western slopes of the Andes. The specific name hugoi honors Professor Hugo Campos Cereceda, for his "remarkable contributions to the development of the natural sciences in Chile".
Alsodes igneus is a species of frogs in the family Alsodidae endemic to Chile; it is only known from its type locality, Tolhuaca National Park, Malleco Province, on the western slopes of the Andes. The specific name igneus, meaning "something that is of fire", was chosen to symbolize the survival of the population from a great forest fire that affected the type locality in 2000.

Alsodes pehuenche is a species of frog in the family Alsodidae. It is endemic to Pehuenche Valley in the Andes of southern Mendoza Province, Argentina, and the adjacent Chile. At the time of the assessment by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2012, the species was known from six streams in an area encompassing some 9 km². A study published in 2013 extended the known range a few kilometers west and included another Chilean stream.
Batrachyla fitzroya is a species of frog in the family Batrachylidae. It is endemic to Argentina and only known from its type locality, Isla Grande in Lake Menéndez, in the Los Alerces National Park, Chubut Province. The specific name fitzroya refers to Fitzroya cupressoides, a prominent tree at the type locality.
Batrachyla nibaldoi is a species of frog in the family Batrachylidae. It is endemic to Chile and known from the Los Lagos and Aysén Regions between Villa O'Higgins in the south and Kent and Melchor Islands in the north; there is a record from Alao Island further north but this might represent Batrachyla taeniata. The specific name nibaldoi honors Nibaldo Bahamonde, Chilean marine biologist, in recognition of his "remarkable contribution to the development of the zoology in Chile". Common name Nibaldo's wood frog has been coined for it.
Craugastor chrysozetetes is a possibly extinct species of frog in the family Craugastoridae. It is endemic to Honduras where it is only known from near its type locality on the Cerro Búfalo, Cordillera de Nombre de Dios, at the edge of the Pico Bonito National Park. Common name McCranie's robber frog has been coined for this species. However, James McCranie himself has argued that this name "should be rejected in favor of a name associated with the type locality instead of a name tied to one of the three authors who named this species".
Pristimantis ceuthospilus is a species of frogs in the family Craugastoridae. It is endemic to northern Peru and occurs in the western slopes of the Cordillera de Huancabamba and the Pacific slope of the Cordillera Occidental. There are also as yet unconfirmed records from southern Ecuador. The specific name ceuthospilus, from Greek keuthos ("hidden") and spilos ("spot"), refers to the yellow spots in the groin and thighs that remain hidden when the frog is sitting. Common name Wild's robber frog has been coined for it.
