Ambalamedu High School (AHS) was a school in Kerala, India. AHS provided co-curricular activities including Nature Club, Maths Club, Science Club, School band, Youth Festival, Scouts, Guides and NCC.

Formation

The school was inaugurated on 18 May 1970, the first SSLC batch in 1973 had four students. It maintained a continuous 100% pass in the SSLC board examinations. It was run by the Cochin Division of the Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd (FACT). The school enjoyed an all-pass status till 2004, the last year of its run under FACT before it was leased out to a private management. [1]

Tenure under TocH Residential Public School

Ambalamedu High School was handed over to TocH Residential Public School (Prabhat Residential Public School) in 2004. The private firm ran the school for five years and handed in back to FACT in 2009. A trust formed under a society in FACT managed the school for another two years for the sake of the students who were in class nine and ten. It closed down in 2011. [2]

Closure

The school was closed down at the end of 2011, as the company refused to run it any longer. The school today exists only in the realm of memory. Mr. V Gopalakrishna Pillai was the last headmaster of the school. [3]

Sally Ride EarthKAM

Sally Ride EarthKAM is a NASA educational outreach program started in 1996. The program was initiated by JoBea Way Holt, an Earth scientist from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and was initially named KidSat. It allowed students to direct a digital camera aboard a series of space shuttle flights to take photographs of specific places on Earth. In 1998, KidSat was co-opted Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman in space and renamed EarthKAM. Dr. Ride directed the installation of camera equipment on the International Space Station (ISS), where it became a permanent fixture independent of shuttle flights.

Samaikyandhra Movement

Non-Prophet Week Annual charity week

Non-Prophet Week is an annual charity week for the irreligious in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and is coordinated by the Humanist Students. During the week, AHS societies and similar organisations in Ireland and the UK are encouraged to run charity events. The week has had different themes. Sometimes a charity has been chosen, other times groups have been encouraged to volunteer their time, donate blood and raise money for any cause or issue that they feel is important. So far over 200 Non-Prophet Week events have taken place in around 30 different cities. Over £12,000 has been raised and donated to charity.
